District 12 A-AA Tournament at Summertown

District 12 A-AA began their tournament at Summertown on Mon., Oct. 8 with three 1st round matches.

 

In the opening match, #7 seed Hickman Co. had their hands full with #10 Hampshire as the five game match went almost 2 hours with Hickman getting the win at 25-16, 19-25, 27-25, 23-25, 15-13. Hampshire gave it a great effort and had certainly improved from when I saw them earlier in the season at the Page Classic. Hickman prevailed in the end as they had the height advantage at the net. Hickman Co. advances to Wed.'s Quarter-Final match with #2 seed Loretto at 5 PM.

 

In the second match of the night, #5 seed Lewis Co. had no trouble dispensing #12 seed Perry Co. as the Lady Panthers dominated the match with game wins of 25-3, 25-11, 25-4. Lewis Co. had great serving as they probably had 40 aces against the weak serve receive of Perry Co. Lewis Co. advances to Wed.'s Quarter-Finals match at 6:15 against the winner of Tues.'s 1st round match of #4 Zion Christian Academy vs #13 Mt. Pleasant.

 

In the final match of the night, #8 Culleoka took on #9 Santa Fe and won in three games, 25-13, 25-17, 26-24. I was impressed with the play of Culleoka's setter and their middle. Culleoka advances to Tues's Quarter Final match against #1 seed Summertown at 5 PM.

 

The other first round match scheduled for Tues. involves #6 East Hickman vs #11 seed Giles Co. where the winner will advance to Wed.'s Quarter-Final Match with #2 seed Columbia Academy.

 

The Semi-Finals and Finals are scheduled for Thurs. where the first Semi-Final match at 5 PM will be the winner of Summertown/Culleoka vs the winner of Lewis Co. vs the winner of Zion/Mt. Pleasant followed by the second Semi-Final match at 6:15 of the winner of Loretto/Hickman vs the winner of CA vs the winner of East Hickman/Giles. The Final is scheduled at approximately 7:30.

Hickman County outlasts Hampshire in five-game battle

 

Culleoka, Lewis Co. advance in tourney

SUMMERTOWN ??” Hickman County, Lewis County and Culleoka were winners Monday in opening day play of the District 12-A/AA volleyball tournament at Summertown Middle School.

 

Hickman County, the No. 7 seed, outlasted Hampshire (3-15, 3-10) in a five-game duel to the finish. The Lady Bulldogs prevailed 25-16, 19-25, 27-25, 23-25, 15-13.

 

In the fourth game Hampshire??™s Savannah Boyd won seven straight serves to overcome a 23-18 deficit to force a fifth and deciding game.

 

In the fifth game Hickman County jumped ahead 11-3 but the Lady Hawks tied it 13-13 before losing a point on their serve. Lady Bulldogs then claimed the meet??™s final point on a serve from Bresha Hinson.

 

Hickman County (9-10, 7-6) will play No. 2 Loretto at 5 p.m. Wednesday in a quarterfinal match.

 

Lewis Co. 3

 

Perry Co. 0

 

The Lady Panthers (13-4) dominated the match rolling to wins of 25-3, 25-11 and 25-4 over the Lady Vikings (1-12).

 

C.C. Tipps was the pacesetter for Lewis County scoring on 15 straight serves in the first game. Micah Andrews had a nine-point run in the final game.

 

The Lady Panthers will play at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday against the victor of Tuesday??™s 7:30 p.m. Zion Christian versus Mt. Pleasant match.

 

Culleoka 3

 

Santa Fe 0

 

The Lady Warriors (10-16, 7-6) topped their county rival 25-13, 25-17, 26-24 behind the net play of Crystal Farlow and Kristen Ratley.

 

Farlow had eight kills and four blocks to go with eight service points. Ratley had three kills, two blocks and six service points. Julie Andrews??™ 15 service points and 13 assists aided the Lady Warriors.

 

Kayla Romedy was a bright spot for the Lady Wildcats with 10 winning serves in the three games.

 

Santa Fe, the No. 9 seed, closes with a 4-9 district record.

 

Culleoka advances to a 5 p.m. match Tuesday against No. 1 seed Summertown.

Zion Christian (11-5) advances to face Lewis County at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.

 

Madeline Cass had 13 kills to lead the Lady Eagles with Morgan Smith and Emily Tobin adding seven assists and seven points, respectively.

SUMMERTOWN —The Lady Eagles ousted the Lady Warriors with a 25-9, 25-18, 25-12 win Tuesday.

 

Top-seeded Summertown will face the Zion Christian-Lewis County winner in Thursday’s semifinals.
