What is Crocker about? Do you agree the d-line needs help or are we watching two different LaVergne teams?

so the reason that Williams should be starting is because:

1) He is a senior

2) He proved himself in a quarter and 1/2 against a horrible Mcgavock D?

is that correct?

That's good enough in my book...case closed...LaVergne will be victorious with it's new Senior QB. Why did'nt he start from the beginning after all he's AROD made over. it's easy to point at the qb but dont dare point out the (wr) or d-line.

You guys seem to forget that Sonny has the experience factor going for him. You can be all over him, in his face, and yanking him down.....and he STILL throws the perfect pass. He and his receivers are in unision with each other. They have been together a LONGGGGG time. No one threads that needle better than Sonny. Plus he has Robbins as his coach and he has taught him a LOT of football. Sonny has a feel for the game that can't be taught too..it is instinct and studying. I just don't think you can throw a new guy, Williams, into the frying pan and expect more than what you are getting from Crocker. Ask your center and Receivers.........it does make a difference if you aren't used to the QB. It affects the timing.

Well said,

I have been reading your post for a few weeks and you are truly a fan of this region. Timing is everything as well as correct route running that is a must when passing to an area. Sonny's prop's are well deserved but that does not make him unstoppable. Smyrna is last years champs and should be respected but not feared. LaVergne can not just close shop and go home because of the Smyrna's talent, thats why they play the game. Upsets happen every week...look at the LaVergne's loss last week......who saw that one comming?

Exactly.......who saw Lebanon beating Smyrna either? Sonny was stopped dead in his tracks last yr in the 1st RHS game last yr and his soph yr as well. It can be done, but here is the thing.......Smyrna couldn't ever beat Riverdale until THEY believed that they could. It is the same thing for LaVergne. As long as they have it in the back of their mind that they might lose, they will. It is called the CONFIDENCE FACTOR. If Smyrna jumps on them quickly, I am not sure that they can overcome it.

Oakland had pressure on Sonny a few times and he either stepped up in to the pocket or rolled out and hit the open man. He was decked a couple times but still completed the pass and then ------ got right back up.

Until you have played in Smyrna vs Lavergne game there is nothing to describe the atmosphere and the amount of concentration it takes on the players part.

Whoever is qb will see a whole new level of intensity where every mistake is amplified.

Should be a great atmosphere and a packed house.

Thanks for answering your own question, I do not think crocker is a bad QB nor do i think williams is a great QB. you have to say that both could lead this team with the players they have around them, but the williams kid can run the ball better than crocker(no AROD ) which will be needed.SENIOR LEADERSHIP GOES ALONG WAY IN HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS. JUST ASK SMYRNA WHO WAS THE LEADERS OWN LAST YEARS TEAM WAS. The D-Front will need to step up the overall play to contain the bryson kid if you want your DBS to have the coverage on the WRS. Dint mean to it home with anything. GO LAVERGNE!!!!!!!!!!!!

your right but that was smyrna 2 or 3 game and our first we scored on the very first play of the game and the rest of the game the ball stayed on smyrnas side of the 50 we just couldnt finish but we still got invited to the championship and smyrna didnt but i could care less cause i know we are 7-0 and oh yea smyrna is 5-2

My point was ... you were not undefeated I checked your facts and I wish they were true ... Smyrna has won the Lions Bowl 3 times over the past 10 years. The year we won the state, we did go to the Lions Bowl, we beat White County 14-6. Not sure what happened the other 2 times, but we sure did not win the state

That is EXACTLY what I was talking about .... the Smyrna freshman class that played in the Lions Bowl, were seniors last year and won the state.

Thanks for the clarification though!

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
