On a cool October evening the Eagles traveled to Milan to take on the Bulldogs at one of the shrines to west Tennessee football, Johnnie Hale Stadium...everything about the night was electric....the crowd turned out in huge numbers, the setting was perfect for the game we all love...JCS won the toss and took the ball only to see their first drive stall...but the defense held and we were in for a great night...Milan drew first blood with some great running but the extra point sailed wide right leaving the Bulldogs with a 6-0 advantage...the Eagles drove inside the red zone and Cody Jones knocked home a field goal to cut the deficit to 6-3...in the second quarter Hudson hit Perkins in the end zone and after a circus catch and a Jones PAT the Eagles took a 10-6 lead to the half...Jones connected on another FG in the third to push JCS lead to 13-6...after several valiant stands by the Eagle defense the Bulldogs scored with 4 minutes remaining and went for two...it first appeared the Eagles had held but an incredible second effort pushed the ball across the goal line and gave the Bulldogs a 14-13 lead...JCS had two chances with the ball to move into FG range but a great defensive stand by Milan secured the win...

Player of the Game...

Tanner Perkins...when Hudson's pass was deflected in the end zone a twisting diving catch gave the Eagles the lead

Honorable Mention...

Heath Thompson...big hits all night...

Ben Cooper...big blow to jar loose a fumble after a big catch by Milan...

Matt Hudson...good decisions against a fast secondary prevented any picks...

Post Sript...Kenny Chesney had a line in a song several years ago..."Friday night butterflies just like clock work they'd arrive little bit of nip in the Oct air nervous till the kickoff came...4 quarters win or lose I spent Saturdays black and blue, it was more than just a game, it was what I loved to do"...Last night was what we love about the game...two great teams doing battle...big plays, great coaching...if you love football this was really what it is all about...hats off to a great Milan squad...you are well coached and have tons of atheletes...big hits by both teams...got to be a few loose teeth this morning...

Next Week...JCS renews an old rivalry...as they make the short trip to USJ...if you like to see the rock in the air it will be your night as both teams will air it out...

thanks...I would love to have seen how we faired in 1A and if we could repeat...but all in all I am happy with the move...the level of play is so much more fun to watch...the crowds so much larger...and everyone has been so kind to us...we have faired better than most expected, but there is alot of football left to play...

Jax, we should see plenty of action at USJ for sure. Both teams will throw the ball, and both teams really need the win to have a shot at the post season.

These JCS Eagles are giving us lots to be proud of.

Nice find on the Chesney lyrics - I'm glad I'm not on the receiving end of any of those hard hits - I'm pretty sure one of those licks from either defense would spell SICK LEAVE for this old man....

As for the move up to 2A, the current 9-12 enrollment for JCS is right at 300, with a nearly perfect 50-50 male/female split. JCS has over a third of it's boys on the football field every Friday night. Congrats to the Coach Stew and his staff for incorporating so many kids into the program and for maximizing their abilities. This program is growing boys into men.

To Jaxman and Gocart,

Thanks for your leadership and authenticity. Love finds us when we most need it. PREPARE FOR RAIN!

Thanks, PS. I'm really grateful for and humbled by the "rain" that God is bringing to the kids in our program. Valuable life lessons are being taught and learned...
