Definitely expect a tough battle this week. I would expect to see a much better first half effort this week for Harpeth particularly with it being Homecoming and playing for 3rd seed in the Region to make the playoffs. Harpeth should get a couple of guys back from injury which will help solidify the defense. Both offensive styles are very similar in that both teams like to mix the run with the pass which will make for an exciting game. If the momentum from the 2nd half of last week's game against East Hickman has any carryover effect for Harpeth, I like the Indian's chances for a strong night.

I agree Big Country. A big game and there'll be a big crowd with Homecoming. I was disappointed in the crowd Harpeth had for East Hickman. Fall break took a chunk out of our home fans. I think they'll be back in force and ready to go this week.

I think pre-season everybody was looking at these next 2 games as the big ones. Except for the loss to East Robertson, everything has gone about the way we thought they would. I'm not surprised to be 2-2 in the region with a shot at the playoffs on the line at this point in the season. A bunch of Harpeth folks went to the Richland/Fairview game to see what they were up against. I really couldn't tell. Neither team really was all that impressive moving the ball. Is that not executing on offense or really good defense? It's hard to say. I think Richland will be another physical game. Harpeth will be glad to have seniors Eddie Sotomayer and John Hogan back and juniors Kendrick Jones and Jordan Clark, unfortunately Michael Seeber is lost for the season with a torn ACL and sophomore LB/G Travis Stanfield will be out this game as well.

As far as playoff scenarios go, Richland and Harpeth are both 4-3 overall with Richland's region record at 1-2 and Harpeth's at 2-2. Richland still has a tough game looming with Hickman County however. Fairview also stands at 2-2 in the region with losses to the same 2 region teams that Harpeth has lost to, Lewis Co. and Hickman Co. They have to win out to get in the playoffs because of their overall record of 2-6.

A win in this one would be a fifth win for either Harpeth or Richland. Depending on what Fairview does it doesn't matter because I'd predict the winner of this one to be "a wild card" at the very least in the 2A Playoffs.

If Harpeth wins this week and next week then they'll be #3 in the region and get an automatic bid into the postseason. If Richland wins this one and Harpeth wins next week against Fairview then the Raiders will be #3 in the region thus earning them an automatic bid into the playoffs. If Fairview wins next week against Harpeth then they'll be #3 and earn an automatic bid into the postseason (WHICH IS THEIR ONLY WAY TO GET IN DUE TO HAVING 6 LOSSES ON THE SEASON).

I'd rather not depend on the wild card, but it will be a possibility if Harpeth gets to 5 wins. It looks like there will be alot of 4 seeds with below 500 records.

The current teams in the top 3 plus the ones with winning records in 2A are:

Region 1-2A Gatlinburg Pittman, Cumberland Gap and Happy Valley

Region 2-2A Alcoa, Loudon, CAK, Rockwood, Sweetwater

Region 3-2A Tyner, Boyd Buchanan, Marion Co.

Region 4-2A York Institute, Smith Co., Westmoreland, Cannon Co.

Region 5-2A Goodpasture, CPA, DCA

Region 6-2A Lewis Co, Hickman Co, Harpeth, Richland

Region 7-2A Camden, Huntingdon, Stewart Co., Adamsville

Region 8-2A Martin Westview, Milan, JCS, Peabody

Region 9-2A Who knows. Does not have a team with a winning record in the region. 3 spots max

Regions 1, 3, 5 & 9 have 3 teams max. unless a team with a losing record somehow winds up with a 3 seed or higher.

Region 2 has 5 legitimate candidates for the playoffs

That would leave 15 spots for the remaining 4 regions. If teams like Fairview lock up a 3 seed with a losing record, that would increase the chances of their region getting 4 teams in imo.

I would love to see Harpeth win their next two games if at all possible. I'd be more than happy if they got one of them and snuck in but if they win them both then they are going to possibly play a first round playoff game that is much more winable as opposed to getting in as a final seeded type of team and having to go somewhere like Goodpasture to open the postseason.

I'd much rather take my odds THIS YEAR with a team like a Huntingdon or even a Camden as opposed to having to play a team like Goodpasture or CPA to open the playoffs.

Either way I just want to see Harpeth get in. I think it would be great for them and be great for the county overall.

BTW, tell Coach Loope that I have openely extended and invitation to him to come down to McDonald's and get on the air over the course of these last two Saturday's. I AM SURE THAT THERE ARE MANY THAT WANT TO HEAR FROM THE HEAD COACH & SOME OF THE PLAYERS FROM HARPETH AS TO HOW THEY ARE DOING EXACTLY IN THE PLAYOFF RACE!!!! I have been giving the Indians scores and region standing throughout the season but I can't speak with 100% accuracy as to how well Harpeth really is doing right now.

I'll say something to him Big Country. It'll be tough this weekend. The football club is staying up all night cooking chicken and ribs after the game Friday! We'll be in the Harpeth parking lot if you want to take your show on the road! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

With Harpeth's proximity to GP and CPA you gotta think that they would be lumped into the 8 team bracket with them if Harpeth does make it. Although depending upon the wildcards, Camden and Huntingdon could also be lumped in with them too. Let's all hope the ABC's get moved across the way and have to fight it out with Alcoa before they ever get to the Boro. Good Luck to the Indians...we'd love to offer you our hospitality in the first round /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

I'll run it by CA. Maybe he'll let me do like an 11:00am-Noon show at Harpeth with Coach Loope & whoever wants to talk football at HHS. It would be an exciting day ESPECIALLY IF HARPETH CAN WIN ON FRIDAY NIGHT!!!!

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
