Whitwell @ Grace Baptist Academy

Can the Tigers build on their win against David Brainerd, or does GBA overpower the Tiger defense? I haven't seen GBA play, but hear that they have some talent in their skilled positions. Whitwell has been running the ball adequately and mixing it up with a few good passes by Kilgore, but the big question I have is can the defense foster some needed aggression and stop Grace's passing game? Any thoughts?

If you want to beat Grace, shut down the quarterback. Boyd held them to one score in the late minutes of the game. That touchdown was agains Boyd's second string. Control Grace's quarterback and you control the game.

DB just played both teams in a row. I was more impressed with Whitwell than Grace, but Grace might have been a little flat after getting drilled by LV. DB should have made the game closer in both games. If the game is at Grace, I will have to go with Grace by a TD or 2. Stopping their QB has been difficult. He throws better and runs better than what you saw Saturday. Their main receiver is not as fast or quick as DB's, but they seem to somehow get the ball to the right person.

I think that if our defense can muster a little more aggression this week, then we can put the necessary pressure on their QB. Stopping their pass game will be crucial for the Tigers to win, just as it was last Saturday against DB. You should see a victory this week, DBfan. I think you will have more success moving the ball against Copper Basin that you did against us.

Whitwell is goingh to win. They looked like the better team. I think they will be able to exploit Grace's inept run defense

This is another key to a Whitwell victory (the other one stated above). Francis can run the ball at you hard, so he has to have a good game for the Tigers.

Good luck this week, jadguitar. Your impressive jackets should have no trouble stinging Silverdale.

The paper showed that we had plenty of yards to maybe sustain a win. Even showed that 1st downs were even. The passing game was ineffective, other than total yards, because the ball was not in the right person's hands. I'm not sure how much Whitwell had to do with that, but maybe more than I know.....

I should have specified that I meant you should have more success passing the ball this week. You did fairly well running the ball last Saturday, but didn't run it as often as you could have to help win the game. You seemed to keep going back to the pass even when it wasn't working and the run was. That's just my opinion, though. I'm no expert, just an interested fan of high school football.

I agree. The pass could and should have worked. The run could and should have worked.

Just like with any game, though, all of the "could have" and "should have" stuff doesn't change the outcome. I'm proud of the Tigers for doing what they had to do to come away with the win. I hope that they can continue it this week. Where are the GBA fans?? Do they have nothing to say?

    • I believe that was last year. I was interested in the Jones vs Baker comment, so I went back and looked at GC. I am not a fan of either nor am I a baseball guru. This looks like to me the duel was not close and if the errors would not have been made Eagleville would have won. I assume you are a little biased. I do think your mph for Jeffcoat and Baker must be from last year.  Baker-85 pitches 67 strikes. 5.2 innings, 5H, 1BB, 0ER and 7K's. 3 errors  Jones- 78 pitches 37 strikes. 4 innings, 2H, 5BB, 0ER and 1K. 1 error   Adams and the UH kid are really good as well. What about South Pitt and Oakdale? I heard they have some good ones.
    • I hate this for all the kids in the program and fans alike. I can't recall of anything like this before in my lifetime but I'm sure it isn't a first. After criminal investigations are complete and the TSSAA looks into this the program it will be facing Nuclear Winter for some time to come. It's always the innocent left behind that end up paying the price for something someone else has done. I'm sure the transfer portal will be very active in Clinton over the summer months. How could you find a good coach worth his salt that would take on a situation like this not knowing what will happen.
    • I’ve seen Jeffcoat in person twice and he was 84-87 both times and the one time I saw Baker he was low 80’s, he actually got out dueled by Jones from ER in that outing.
    • Pirate fans, thread is up on the baseball message board.
