Kicking stats question

Earlier this season, there was a forum describing a team lining up for a field goal, and the kicker intentionally kicks short, and the kicking team downs the football on the 1 yard line. Trinity did exactly that Friday night against Halls, and it worked perfectly. My question: Does that count as a missed field goal on the kicker's stats?

Yes.

NO IT DOES NOT. If a field goal does not travel into the endzone then statiscally it counts as a punt. However far from the line of scrimmage it traveled is what goes on his PUNTING stats, but it does not count as a missed field goal

If you try an 80 yard FG at the end of a game to run out the time and the football lands shy of the goal line then it DOES TOO COUNT AS A MISSED FG.

The only thing that the endzone determines is that if the ball crosses the goal line then it is DEAD!!! If a missed FG hits in the field of play then the defensive team can pick up the football and try to score.

If the ball is "placed" down on the ground, either with another team member holding it or the kicker "drop kicks" the ball, then it is defined as a field goal. If the ball does not cross between the goal posts and above the crossbar, it is considered an attempt. If the kicked ball does not go out of bounds and stays within the field of play, the "kicking team" can down the ball or the "receiving team " can advance the ball. If the kicked ball goes out through the endzone, receiving team's ball on their 20. If the kicked ball goes out of bounds, receiving teams ball on that spot.

It is not considered a punt, because the ball is "placed" on the ground, before the kick.

Both right and wrong. Even if the ball is "placed" on the ground or is drop kicked, as long as it does not cross the goal line it is considered a "scrimmage kick" (of which one kind of scrimmage kick is a punt) and therefore goes on your punting stats. However as soon as the ball breaks the plane of the end zone it counts as an attempt.

No, it is a field goal attempt. If it goes out of bounds, it is a field goal attempt. If the defense recovers the ball before it goes into the endzone , they may advance it, but it is still a field goal attempt. If the defense covers the ball in the endzone, dead ball, touchback, the ball is placed on the 20yd line.

    • Well personally I see us going 9-1 so that isn't doom and gloom to me , Most people are thinking 6-4. Bearden will be the possible loss but hoping not. I was very impressed with what I saw this spring.
    • the kid you are speaking about, played in JV games,  2H half Science Hill game, split time in Hardin Valley and Bearden and that was it.   The upcoming Senior RB was All Region as a Junior and is regarded by the media as one of the top running backs in East TN for 2024 season. Scouting services have him as a top 10 back in the state.  Something aint adding up with gloom and doom. Maybe he was hurt and not at spring practice when you watched?
    • It won't be long now, he gone.
    • Are you kidding me?  You are just trolling now.  The new head coach's qualifications would be volunteer coach at the Oak Ridge Boys Club?  C'mon man, you can't be serious.  You're trolling us.  Anybody working at Clinton High School has to be like a cat in a room full of rocking chairs at this point.  They are coming after anybody and everybody that had knowledge of what was going on.  This is about to get real ugly.  Only in Clinton.
    • So no way they can compete with the likes of McCallie or Baylor still then
