I also heard today that Austin didn't get it. I hope Moore County didn't give into pressure and make another bad hire. If indeed the popular choice was the pick hopefully for Moore County's sake this won't just be a stepping stone as another poster insinuated. I have a bad feeling that if who I think got the job did, he'll be gone before Moore County reaps the benefits of his experience.

I heard Steve Mathews, the QB coach at Tullahoma High School, got the job. I don't think anyone knows how long he will be there, but I'll say this, he will be missed at Tullahoma. He's a great guy and well liked at Tullahoma, by the fans and players. Most everyone around here knows that Tullahoma runs the spread offense and it's a very exciting offense to watch. I wish him well. Steve was an outstanding QB at the Univ. of Memphis and has NFL experience with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Good luck to Steve and the Moore Co football fans.

i give the new coach less than three years before he is gone

Now that is exactly what I don't understand. That appears to be the general concensus so why would Moore County make that hire? I can't argue that he possibly was the most qualified candidate at this point in time, but almost all would agree that this by no means will be his final coaching spot. I think the goal of every high school program should be stablility first. When your putting a new staff in every other year, tradition will never be established. I guess that is the main reason I don't understand the passing over of Austin for a second year in a row. Once you get "your guy" in place, he will start developing his system down at the pee-wee level and by the time these kids reach high school, a good foundation will be in place to make a run. I don't see that happening again at Moore County until they plant their football program on a firm foundation.

    • I believe that was last year. I was interested in the Jones vs Baker comment, so I went back and looked at GC. I am not a fan of either nor am I a baseball guru. This looks like to me the duel was not close and if the errors would not have been made Eagleville would have won. I assume you are a little biased. I do think your mph for Jeffcoat and Baker must be from last year.  Baker-85 pitches 67 strikes. 5.2 innings, 5H, 1BB, 0ER and 7K's. 3 errors  Jones- 78 pitches 37 strikes. 4 innings, 2H, 5BB, 0ER and 1K. 1 error   Adams and the UH kid are really good as well. What about South Pitt and Oakdale? I heard they have some good ones.
    • I hate this for all the kids in the program and fans alike. I can't recall of anything like this before in my lifetime but I'm sure it isn't a first. After criminal investigations are complete and the TSSAA looks into this the program it will be facing Nuclear Winter for some time to come. It's always the innocent left behind that end up paying the price for something someone else has done. I'm sure the transfer portal will be very active in Clinton over the summer months. How could you find a good coach worth his salt that would take on a situation like this not knowing what will happen.
    • I’ve seen Jeffcoat in person twice and he was 84-87 both times and the one time I saw Baker he was low 80’s, he actually got out dueled by Jones from ER in that outing.
    • Pirate fans, thread is up on the baseball message board.
