wai652231
I dont understand how the Mr. Football Kicker of the year title can go to this kid from Polk County. Hammonds was 5-8 on field goals 36-39 extra points .. and quoted by his coach to "sometimes get it to the endzone" on kickoffs. How offend is sometimes..Can he not do it everytime?...Mr. Football titles in the past have gone the best in the state with real stats... colleges stats.. but this here is a joke. Congrats to Mike Hammonds but him recieving the award is a joke. Recently the All-Midstate Teams where listed in the Tennessean Newspaper the kicker listed for the 1st team midstate, Chase Matthewson*. His stats where listed in the paper with a picture. The news paper wrongly reported that he made vaguely 10 field goals, 36- 39 pats, and had a long of 54 yrd. field goal, and best of all the paper reported that he was an incredible 32-34 kickoffs for touchback.. Ha ha thats so for from true 32-34 would put him in the 90% range for kickoffs for touchbacks and his long was on a 46yrd field goal.. but on his school football website the wilson central page it list all the team stats including his, he was truly 32-65 kickoff attempts to the endzone. so he wasnt even really 50% on the year.. and congrats he made 10 field goals but he was 10-19.. the hot stuff right there.. but again congrats to him on the false information given there fore recieving the award. but again thats a joke. The 2nd Team kicker and even the Third Team Kickers were obviously the dominant kickers of the midstate and the state. The 2nd Team Kicker Andrew Fowler of MBA and Sophomore had a brillient season..He was the reason his team won the state championships 12-0 he was 4-4 on the field goals. That was huge and congrats to him.. he was consistantly kicking off to the endzone at 2/3 everygame.. he missed maybe 2 extra points on the year. and as a sophomore his long for the season was a 49yrd field goal. WOW! hands down already better than the kid who won first team. The Third Team Kicker Ethan Ingham from Gallatin Senior, Stats are listed and 20-22 extra points, 9-14 field goals long of 47 and most impressively he was 36-39 kickoffs for touchbacks. He was also listed as the Pre Season ALL State, therefore meaning he put up big numbers last year to as a junior. Now these kickers right here seem to be obviously the best in the midstate and more dominant than thes award winners.. theres Other kickers and punters in the state.. such as Kase Whitehead, Mo Mo Stweart. WhiteHead is already committed to Marshall.. and Stweart is going to Vandy to play baseball.. these kids all have impressive stats... but where is there recognitions?.. I think this all apparent, that the facts are given and award recipents were wrongly choosen.. clearly..
46fan
I agree about the Hammond kid, he was just awful in the east west game, he was 2 out of 4 extra points and punted 3 times for a 30 yard average. I do know he was the 2nd choice for the all star game, the Whitehead kid was the 1st but he opted to attend his all region 2 5-A banquet with his teamates instead. If the Hammond kid had any hopes of playing on Saturdays they were dashed away by his horrible performance in the all star game.

If the Hammond kid had any hopes of playing on Saturdays they were dashed away by his horrible performance in the all star game. Keep dreaming guys, this Kid is the real deal. He played with a pulled muscle and had not punted in 5 weeks leading up to the game. He knew he would have problems but wanted to play. One game does not define the player with snappers and holders you haven't used all year(Scouts and Coaches know this). He has posted the best stats thru out the year as presented. Only one other kid in the state had a better punt average and that is all that he did and he was a finalist. The reason no one wanted to kick in the all star game was nobody could do both punt and kick at his level. This athletic only missed three pats out of 40 in his entire season. He also had a 45.6 yard punt average. You do the math guys, nobody is better and if you know anything about kicking timing is everything. These kids just did not have their timing down on both the east and west teams. Scouts got their eyes full of his level of ability during the three days of practice and pregame. That is all that matters. This kid won all region punter and kicker. All southeast area punter/kicker, all state, Tenneasean dream team and Mr. Football kicker. All of those coachs and sportswriters could not be wrong, they got opportunities to see this great kicker in action throughout his season and he is the real deal. Mybe these kickers will be in contention next year you speak of but don't downgrade the accomplishment of this young man. Thanks.
