I believe he's saying all those counties, davidson, williamson, rutherford .......... comprise the Nashville area. add all of them together and you get 29

The areas are by the biggest city in the area ("Nashville" is the total for Davidson, Williamson, Rutherford, Wilson, Cheatham, & Sumner - all counties that border Davidson). I did this to see how metro areas compared.
