In the 3rd place game of the District 10-AA Tournament, Marshall Co. hit 13 threes as both Hunter Osborne and Blaise Spencer each had 4 and Ryan Nicholson led the Tigers with 18 pts that included 2 threes as they broke the 34-34 half time tie to outscore Lewis Co. 40-25 in the 2nd half to take the win at 74-59. Lewis Co. had 6 threes as Kyle Tenison led the Panthers with 15 points with 2 threes followed by Chance Helton and Ethan Dye who both scored 14 pts with 1 three each.

Marshall Co. was hot from three point land as they led at the end of the 1st qtr, 17-15, as Spencer hit 4 threes, McCullough hit 1 three, and Greer had 2 while Lewis Co.'s Helton had 7 (1 of 1 FT's), Dye had 4 (1 three, 1 of 2 FT's), and Tenison and Crowell each had 2.

 

In the 2nd qtr, LC outscored MC, 19-17, as Cates had 6 (2 threes, 0 of 2 FT's), Dye had 6 (0 of 1 FT's), Tenison hit 3 of 4 FT's, Crowell had 2, and Carroll had 2 (0 of 1 FT's) while MC's Nicholson had 9 (1 three, 0 of 1 FT's), Osborne hit a three, Perryman had 3 (1 of 2 FT's), and McCullough had 2 as the score was tied at the half, 34-34.

 

In the 3rd qtr, MC outscored LC, 18-12, as McCullough had 5 with a three, Perryman had 4, Osborne hit a three, Spencer hit 2 of 3 FT's, and both Nicholson and Greer had 2 each while LC's Helton had 5 with a three, Dye had 4, and Tenison hit a three as MC led after 3 qtrs, 52-46.

 

In the 4th qtr, MC outscored LC, 22-13, as Osborne had 8 (2 threes, 2 of 2 FT's), Nicholson had 7 (1 three, 4 of 4 FT's), Perryman had 5 with a three, and Greer had 2 (0 of 1 FT's) while LC's Tenison had 7 with a three and Helton, Crowell, and Brewer each hit 2 of 2 FT's as Marshall Co. won 74-59.

 

Both teams advance to the Region 5-AA Tournament on Sat. at 7 PM where Marshall Co. will play at David Lipsomb and Lewis Co. will play at CPA. CPA won the 9-AA Championship over David Lipscomb, 54-44 in overtime.

Would someone please explain to me how a coach gets picked as Coach of the year, when he has not had a single college scout at any of the games to watch his senior players. Tigert has done nothing for his senior players to possibly get them a college scholarship to play basketball. Hasn't he seen all the good attention Thomas got when he got Hightower signed. The way lewisburg throws away coaches, he won't be here long. They want someone to make them look good. Winning District and 3rd in the tournament is great but get more recognition for the school. That is all they care about.

Coach Tigert is by far the best coach in the district. Look at what he has done in two years here. He will be in Marshall Co. for a long time. He has brought excitement to this program that hasn't been here in 5 years.

 

Thomas didn't get Hightower signed. Big colleges were already looking at him before Thomas got here. Marshall Co. has a freshman who will have scouts watching him here in a few years.

Really? They finally knock off a GC team who has been atop this district forever, and there's a complaint? Well, I guess someone's settin the bar a little high. He probably got coach of the year by...you said it, "Winning District".

 

Talent will be scouted, and found. I don't care if that coach makes a million phone-calls or emails, if a kid can play, a kid can play.

I just want to say the Jason Tigert has done a outstanding job with the boys he has on his team. He has worked hard to get them to where they are today. There has been college coaches at some of the games I know and if they are interested in a player they will find their parents and talk to them. It doesn`t take phone calls are e-mails to get them at the games, Word of mouth gets the word out about special players.

Its sad that someone would come down on the very coach that put this basketball team/school back on the basketball map. Tigert is a selfless coach who wants nothing but good things for his players. The Thomas comment is just as absurd as the rest of the post! Thomas a good coach and a good man didnt have to do anything for Hightower. Hightower did it himself with his athletic ability and play on the field. How good was Ryan and DeShaun before Tigert got there? Definitly not as good as they are now. Who can you thank for that?
