I don't think anyone said that.

Like I said, I saw them play 2 games. They looked solid but young, very much like Hixson looked. It's very early yet.

They have a very good, young shortstop, I don't know his name. Ooltewah will be fine.

The good, young shortstop for Ooltewah is Zach Zarzour. The Hixson shortstop that I saw play against Grace was Timmy Johnson who hit a 360 ft bomb which ain't bad for a freshman. Zach and Timmy were team mates a couple of years ago during the summer.

I think Ooltewah looked very good this past weekend. They appear to be getting good leadership from Shumaker and Smith who both hit the ball very well for this early in the season. Smith hit two bombs including a grand slam. Rimo had a fine outing against Baylor...holding them to two runs. The Owl pitching looks strong. I think the demise of Ooltewah's baseball program has been grossly exagerated.

The Owls are going to make a lot of noise.....

the catcher from ER hit 2 off the owls so there is no promise in them this year this team will be good in the later part of the year but for now they need to grow

You are crazy. no hope,I guess east ridge will win state?Ooltewah will be fine, not great, but fine.It was just a scrimmage anyway.,.nobody shows their best in scrimmages, they look at players they don't know or a player, they aren't sure about.good luck to the pioneers, hope you all get above .500

The East Ridge catcher is quite likely the best junior prospect in the area. It's no shame to give up a gopher ball to that young man...just make sure it's a curve ball.

Good point about not showing your best. When you play four games in one day, everybody gets one chance to throw their ace. Ooltewah threw their ace against Baylor and it worked out well for them.

With all this said, let's remember it is reaaaaaaaaal early and Saturday was not baseball weather at all.

YES,it's not how you start, but how you finish. You will see everybody's best(hopefully),when the season starts in a few weeks.

I only saw them play 1 game, but I thought Hixson looked surprisingly good. They hit several homeruns. Who was playing shortstop?

True, Ooltewah's sophomore pitcher did struggle somewhat, but the ump wouldn't give him anything. He had very good velocity and a nasty curveball, I think he overthrew a little, could have been excited. His name was Baugh. Their catcher is Randy Reed's son (remember Randy from Lookout Valley?) Ooltewah is loaded with sophomores, I saw them play McCallie and the Owls handled them rather easily.

I'll get to see some of the 5AA and 5AAA teams this weekend.

i was the guy taht played short-stop for hixson.my names tim johnson and im a freshman

/roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> No Promise------dont let 2 bad pitches make ER #1 and Ooltewah terrible, everybodys getting adjusted, especially the soph that are playing.I see Red Bank did well themselves.

The owls will be fine if they play as a team. They have a nice combination of speed and some power. I'm not sure they'll dominate, but they do have the make up to make big plays. I did hear about the Baylor and McCallie game. Good timing for a grand slam against Baylor....the McCallie game ended in a tie.......I'm not sure that's handling them rather easy.

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
