Fastpitch Bats

I am glad you got my point, which I tried to make with a little humor. I have been out of softball for about seven years now, but the technology has really changed. These thirty inch eighteen ounce, or whatever the ratio is, bats are amazing. However, good hitters can hit with anything and bad hitters will not hit much better with a $300 air-craft aluminum/uranium graphite lined flex shaft double barreled rocket launcher of a bat. The good hitters will hit it harder and farther with the space-age bats, while the fundamentally poor hitters will still swing and miss, though they might foul a few more off every now and then. We have led ourselves to believe that the bat makes the hitter and have passed that belief on to our kids. Now every 100 pound Punch and Judy small ball hitter thinks they cannot hit unless mom and dad spring for the latest "Turbo 9000" bat. I keep telling my 80 pound 7th grader, that when she learns to make consistent contact and hit line drives, daddy might spring for a better bat.

Good post and great points.....You are so accurate with that statement.... The bat does not the hitter make......Conversely, a great hitter can definitely make a decent bat look like a million dollars. I haven't hit in a game in several years, but I can tell a big difference between the different bats just when I'm hitting to the girls during practice. An expensive bat will not help your kid hit a ball, but it will make a difference after they do learn to hit like you said. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

For some reason, I was thinking it was actually the 03 that was the 100 mph bat that got "grandfathered" in and is now legal. I've seen those bats sell on e-bay for 6 or 7 hundred dollars. Unbelievable. My oldest daughter swings an 05 and my younger one swings an 07. My older daughter thinks the 05 is much hotter and I tend to agree. The 05 seems to be more easily cracked if you don't pay close attention to the temperature. I think they state to only use them in at least 60 degree weather, but I'm not sure if perhaps 65 would be better. I have heard the 08 was getting some great reviews, but haven't seen one in action. They are a much prettier bat than the 07 if that counts for anything... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

03-04 were the hot ones(black and red) 05 was the first year after ASA told Rocket tech to calm them down. 07 bats were decent, but don't know anyone swinging the 08. Looking to buy a new one and just wanted some input about the 08. Thanks for your reply to the post.

We have had two failures of the 33" 2008 RocketTech...I won't buy any more of them. My 2007s are holding up fine and my girls LOVE them.

Our team will use sawed off broom handles this year. When you strike out as often as we do, you might as well do it with a broom handle. It cuts down on costs, and greatly reduces our strike out versus dollar ratio.

You're doing it all wrong. You've got to leave the bristles on the broom and let the girls hit with that end. Granted, it won't go very far when they hit it, but the ball passing through those bristles creates a wicked spin, making it really difficult for the catcher to snag. Your team will reach base on more third-strike passed balls than ever before. I admit some flame-throwing pitchers could set the bristles on fire after a while, but just go to Dollar General and stock up on brooms before the season starts. This could also be a great recruiting tool for summer ball coaches. Tell the girls if they'll buy their own shoes and uniforms, you'll provide each of them with their own personal broom. They'll be lining up for the chance.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
