OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) ??” Baltimore Ravens quarterback Steve McNair is retiring from the NFL after 13 seasons.

McNair told teammates of his decision during an emotional meeting Thursday morning before the launch of coach John Harbaugh's first minicamp.

The 35-year-old McNair led the Ravens to a 13-3 record in 2006, his first season in Baltimore after 11 years in Tennessee. But groin, back and shoulder injuries limited him to six games in 2007. He threw just two touchdown passes while losing seven fumbles and throwing four interceptions as the Ravens struggled to a 5-11 record.

McNair led Tennessee to the Super Bowl in 1999, where the Titans lost to the St. Louis Rams. He was named co-MVP of the league in 2003, sharing the award with Peyton Manning.

He may have played 13 years in the NFL, but his body must feel like it was in dog years.

He provided a lot of thrills for the fans, and was the face of the franchise from the first days he came to Tennessee.

One of the toughest players in the NFL, he and Favre defined what tough meant for the QB fraternity. Before injuries eroded his talent, he was about as dangerous a QB on the field as you could get. Not the most artistic or blessed with the greatest arm- he just played ball.

It was a sad final chapter when he went to the hated Billick Ravens, but Father Time has now called him to join his team. I hope the Titans do something this season, and retire his number.

From tiny Alcorn State to possible HOF consideration, it was a good career for Air McNair.

    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
