No semifinal matches in D-1 state tournament?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know why there are no semifinal matches in the D-1 tournament this year?

They have had them in the past, and they had them this year in the D-2 tournament. But now the bracket winners go straight to the championship game. Why the format change?

They did the same with the boys D1 state in the fall.

Supposedly the "coaches" were polled and the consensus was to not have to play four games. I don't think it was a good idea because if a team lost its first match, there was little effort in the second. If the coaches or TSSA think that four games is too many for a weekend (which I tend to agree), then there should be rankings and make it single elimination. You could see in most of the second matches for a team that had previously lost that there was little to play for.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
