The Sportsman??™s Warehouse Tennessee-Georgia Softball Classic will again be a doubleheader tentatively set for 6 p.m. at Chattanooga's Frost Stadium.

Now in its 11th year, the Softball Classic is the oldest of the Tennessee-Georgia All-Star classics.

Team Tennessee had won 15 of the first 16 games in the series, but the past two years Stump Martin returned to the softball diamonds as the Georgia coach and has guided the teams to three wins in four games.

The women from the Peach State took the second game of the doubleheader in 2006 and swept Tennessee for the first time last year, winning 4-3 and 6-0.

Would be a good year for a change in coaches for the Tennessee side. Since half of your kids will come from Ooltewah and GPS, how 'bout letting Norma and Susan C. coach the Tennessee girls. Would be a nice change from Clifford and Lamar.

The Georgia kids won last year because of one of the most talented senior classes in many, many years. Not because Stump came back to coach.

How do girls get nominated/icked to play in this game. Seems like every year they are all from the Chattanooga area only. Would nice to see some girls from, Bradley, Rhea, etc. There are several good seniors from those teams. Do coaches nominate their own seniors or does Clifford just hand pick them? Change can be good!

    • Honestly the A.D. may be powerless at Maryville to some degree versus other schools. I know he has his hands full with GoFan and all the stupid surprises just from the emails he sends out during the season.
    • Harriman was better than what I anticipated. They had good skill guys and a QB that’s gonna make a lot of teams look silly. They had some silly pre snap penalties but it’s just spring and I guess that’s expected.    Oneida looks the part. They are big upfront and got a stable of backs that’s gonna carry them this year. They have a few playmakers at receiver also. They have a new receiver that has only played basketball till this year and he is very athletic. The question is can we find a QB to consistently get them the ball. They played 2-3 kids there and none looked great but they didn’t look awful either. The  defense is gonna be tough again but it’s very early and a lot can change between now and the fall.     It was good just to get out and watch some ball. I don’t know if Oneida has the team to win the region this year but just what I saw tonight I think they may be in the conversation come November.
