drstats
The last of the Sportsman's Warehouse Tennessee-Georgia All-Star Classics will take place on Wednesday, June 18 as the Softball Classic, the oldest of the Tennessee-Georgia Classics, will be contested at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School. The first game of the traditional doubleheader will take place at 6 p.m. Now in its 11th year, the Softball Classic matches up the top recent graduates from Southeast Tennessee and against their counterparts from Northwest Georgia. The Volunteer State has dominated the series, winning 16 of the 20 previous games, but the Peach State is currently enjoying a three-game winning streak. Georgia claimed its first-ever win over Tennessee in 2003, splitting the twin-bill. Georgia took a Game 2 win in 2006 and swept Tennessee for the first time last season, 4-3 and 6-0. The Classic is always a showcase for some of the best fastpitch talent in the Southeast to show off their skills one final time. Every player that played in last year's Classic signed to play in college. There were 18 total Division I signees in last year's game, 10 from Team Georgia and eight from Team Tennessee. The Tennessee squad will be coached by Ooltewah's Norma Nelson and GPS's Susan Crownover, who each led their teams to state championships this spring. Georgia will coached by Tony Ellis of LFO, who guided the Lady Warriors to a 31-4 record and the Class AAAA North Sectionals. TEAM TENNESSEE Holly Thomas (Ooltewah) Kaitlin Neil (Ooltewah) Tabitha Farrow (Ooltewah) Lexie Whittenburg (Ooltewah) Linley Gannon (Ooltewah) Stephanie Sewell (Ooltewah) Magan Wagner (GPS) Kamri Chester (GPS) Jessica Phillips (GPS) Amy Campbell (GPS) C.C. zeroedge
Do you thing the TN team has anought players.maybe about 8 to many There are that many players because nobody wants to listen to the backlash of complaining parents because their little princess was not included. LOL , No really , I guess there were a lot of really fine players from the area and it is hard to pick " who to leave off".
drstats
I'm sure the people that put the rosters together had a hard time selecting players for Tennessee. Lots of great talent and players worthy enough to play in the game. But it is a doubleheader, so playing time shouldn't be an issue. No Futures Game unfortunately. Apparently the TSSAA has some sort of issue with it all of a sudden. The Futures Baseball Game between Tenn. and Ga. had to be cancelled too, which is a shame. Indian
It doesn't make sense for them to have a problem with it, it shouldn't be any different from playing ASA. I don't see how they can control who plays for who in the summer. Maybe next year you can avoid the all-star label, organize the SE TN team as the "Vipers", etc for one night and the North Georgia team as the "Eagles" for one night. Then call it quits after a two-game season. What would be the difference.
PixieDustSpreader
Amazing....TN/GA Classic /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Hamilton County vs two counties in GA. How in the world can they even think about calling this a TN/GA Classic? /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />
Indian
It's called that to help drum up local interest and probably because there would be too many words in a title. I don't think they're trying to fool anyone into thinking all the best players from both states will be in it. And it's more than just Hamilton County, players are considered from all over the media area especially for the football games when larger rosters are needed. Indian
SE TN team won 2-0, 1-0. Ooltewah's Thomas was dominating pitching, Wagner from GPS and Millwood from Hixson also pitched well.
drstats
Pitching wasn't too shabby for Georgia either. Held a good hitting Tennessee lineup to just eight hits (seven singles) in two games. Georgia gave a much better peformance than I, or most people, thought they would. Great crowd on hand. Probably about 500, give or take a few. Biggest crowd I've seen in my seven or eight years of working with this game. The young girls in town for the youth tournament really enjoyed watching the high school girls play. A lot of the high school players signed autographs during and after the games. wilson25
SE TN team won 2-0, 1-0. Ooltewah's Thomas was dominating pitching, Wagner from GPS and Millwood from Hixson also pitched well. If Stumpy would have coached, Georgia would have won both games by mercy rule.
