Congratulations! I always enjoy hearing about the Tennessee teams being successful!

This national title is the pinnacle of high school girl’s travel basketball and is the biggest summer tournament of the year (which is Nike sponsored). The tournament includes some of the best talent across the nation and a who’s who of Tennessee players. About 85% of the Flight Silver roster included in-state players which is unusual for exposure programs of this caliber. (Not to underplay the two out-of-state players [FL / MS] that was absolutely critical to the success of the team.)

Tennessee Flight Silver 2008 Roster:

1 Valencia McFarland - 5'6 - Raymond High School (MS)

3 Jasmine James - 5'9 - Bartlett High School

4 Erica Lane - 5'7 - 2009 - Knoxville West High School

5 Kayla Christopher - 5'8 - Oliver Springs High School

10 Jaclissa Haslip – 6’0 – Riverdale High School

12 Jasmine Hassell - 6'3 - Wilson Central High School

20 Jamila Ajanaku - 6'0 - Memphis Central High School

22 Dymon Raynor - 6'3 - Smyrna High School

23 Kortni Jones - 5'8 - Oak Ridge High School

25 Ashley Jones - 6'0 - Lake Howell High School (FL)

32 Faith Dupree - 6'4 - Knoxville Webb High School

33 Laquinta Jefferson - 6'0 - Lavergne High School

35 Nicole Dickson – 6’0 – Greenville High School

42 Lakeisha Crouch - 6'0 - 2010 - Hillsboro High School

(Hannah Dawson - 5’11 of Shelbyville was not able to make the trip due to illness…)

First of all Dub, congratualtions to Flight Silver for winning the end of the year Nike Championship. It is a great accomplishent and you must be a very proud papa. But to be fair for those less familiar with this event, we need to clarify some things:

Nike Nationals is the pinnacle of "Nike" basketball, not travel ball in general. While there is a ton of talent on these teams and several college coaches in attendance, it is an invitation only event limited to 20 Nike sponsored teams. While there have been other non-Nike teams invited in the past, it is unusual. At the same time Nike Nationals was going on, Adidas Nationals was being held. I'm sure their champion feels as if they are the national champion of travel ball. The same could be said of the Michael T White events and AAU. Perhaps instead of national champions you should refer to yourself as Nike Nationals Tournament Champions or Nike National Champions. To truly be a national championship an event should be open to all comers, and I think you would admit there are some very competitive teams who are not sponsored by Nike.

I'd also take exception to the comment of the team's makeup being a who's who of TN talent. There are great players on this team, primarily from middle and east tennessee. However, there are also great players that play for other teams across the state and region, so it is a bit of a slight to them to suggest that they are in some way inferior to the girls on this team.

Don't want to deflate that cloud you're on, just Keepnitreal....

Sounds like someone is hating. daughter not good enough to be silver? and the whole not being premier is why other teams cant make it outta pool play at big tourn. such as battle in the borro, junior nationals, and so on. and anyone can qualify for nike nationals as long as they play in three of the elite nike tourn held throughout the summer. and idk where you get off saying that the girls think they are inferior. take a look. fligh silver has all the top girls in the state. check it. the top ten players minus advant. where they at?

Congratulations to the Tennessee Flight Silver for winning Nike Nationals. It must have been an amazing tournament.

In a doing some research looking back at Hoopgurlz. The Flight won this tournament over teams that included: DFW Elite - winners of Boo Williams Best of the Best and the Chicago Summer Showcase, Boo Williams - winners of the Orlando AAU Showcase and the Washington D.C. US Junior Nationals, West Coast Premiere - winners of the Cincinnati Nike Midwest Showdown, Cal Swish - wiiners of the Oregon City End of the Trail and the Memphis River City Classic, NY Elite - Silver Bullets - winners of the 16U AAU Nationals in Orlando.

I am always proud of Tennessee teams that do well. This is a great accomplishment.

Okay, let's not nitpick this to death. TN Flight Silver does have some of the best talent in the state on that team. Do they have all of the best talent? No. They won a tournament that had at least 2 of the top 5 travel teams in the nation in it. Are there other organizations that have top national teams? Yes. Does that take away from what Flight did? No. I don't have a child on the team, but I do know several of the players. They are a great bunch of girls that work hard & are very talented. Just let it go. Keep the focus on the girls & let's congratulate them on the results of their hard work.

Agreed Bri, your assessments are fair and accurate. The girls are sweet and deserve the accolades. FYI, the Nike Nationals is not open to any team, as was stated in an earlier post.

Top knotch combo guard Kayla Christopher gets great national reviews by ESPN-Hoopgurlz writers:

ESPN-Hoopgurlz writers voted Jasmine Hassell and Jasmine James to Nike Nationals First Team.

Note:

Jaclissa Haslip was actually part of 2 national championships over the course of one summer. She was also a critical part of the 15U AAU National Championship with the Memphis Elite.

Didn't realize Haislip had left Memphis Elite. Was she the difference maker in the Flights Championship as well?
