my2cents
Can anyone tell me the penalty for 12 men on the field? I know it is 15 yard penalty; I believe they actually call it unsportsmanlike conduct.
BLUEMOM
It is 15 yard illegal participation penalty if the 12th man actually participates in the play. It is a substitution penalty of 5 yards if the huddle is broken with 12 and 1 is trying to get off the field. It is not illegal to only play with 10 as long as 7 are on the line on offense! Utkman
Yes - a good official will never let get it to the 15 yard variety. If we count 12 on offense or defense, kill it before the snap and mark off the 5 yard penalty for substitution.

Breaking the huddle with 12 is not necessarily a foul under the high school rules - that's the college rule. The foul occurs when the "replaced player" does not leave "immediately Also, it's a foul (illegal participation) if a substitution or pretended substitution is done with intent to decieve. Brentwood up 21-9 with about 9 minutes to go. 4th down and about 13 or 14 with brentwood punter standing about the 5 yard line punt was returned to about the 25. Flag on play 12 on the field 15 yards gave them a first down. Smyrna holds after 3 plays but more time off the clock 4th and about 17, "timeout Smyrna", yep had 12 on the field again for that punt return. I blamed the 15 yard penalty on the coaches or players never really thought to blame it on the ref. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
