Centennial vs. Columbia

Orlando "Chip" McCroskey (the DL you were referring to) broke his leg in the Ravenwood game and had season ending surgery. Not sure who will take his place on the line

 

That's a big loss for CHS. Chip was having a breakout year this year after missing most of his freshman year with an injury. Sad to see his season end like this.

Gameday. This will be the first time I see the Cougars in action since Northeast, so here's my final thoughts.

 

1. Establish Momentum Early: Score early and often, and make Columbia have to play from behind (they seem to play their best when the game is close). Break a couple of scores early and make the Lions play from behind.

 

2. Don't get trapped: The Cougars are on an emotional high coming off their biggest win in years, and next week will possibly be their biggest game in school history. The Cougars cannot look backwards or forwards. They have a tough team directly in front of them that have played them close the past few meetings. Take it one game at a time, and worry about what lies ahead when it gets here.

Final from Franklin, TN: Centennial 35 Columbia 26

 

Not a particularly great game for the Cougars, but they get it done, and that's what matters.

 

Centennial opened up the game with a Drew Kelly reception for a touchdown, and after a great punt return from Eli Spallinger, Tony Kemp doubed up the Cougars lead to make it 14-0, which was the score after 1 quarter.

 

Columbia interchanged quarterbacks between Zach Tate and Ryan Tilghman, and it was some nice runs by Tilghman that set up a Tra'Darius Goff rushing TD for the Lions, making it 14-7. On the next drive however, another Chaz Scales to Drew Kelly pass amounted for a touchdown, making the score 21-7. After driving the ball down to the 1 yard line, Columbia was penalized 15 yards, and had to settle for a FG. On the ensuing kick off, Raymond Jackson returned a kickoff for a TD, making it 28-10. Another Columbia FG made it 28-13, and Columbia threatened to score again before half time, but Zach Tate was picked off by Darius Steele.

 

The second half saw Columbia sneak back into the game, after Punter Austin Bass couldn't handle a low snap. A few plays later, Tra'Darius Goff scored his 2nd TD of the game, making it 28-20. After some defensive stops for each team, Tony Kemp of Centennial muffed a punt, which led to another TD run for Columbia, this time by QB Zach Tate. However, Columbia missed the 2pt conversion, and the score remained 28-26.

 

Chaz Scales had the final touchdown run of the game, scrambling with his legs to make it 35-26. Columbia had some nice drives, but failed to convert a 4th and long to end the game.
