Senator, good to hear from you also..Looking forward to seeing you this season. Also enjoy enjoy your wise comments and glad you are doing well too. I like you think there will be a few give UHS some good games as well. But you will have to bring your "A" game tho.

Will Upperman have any real tests during the regular season?

This thread needed to come back to the front page IMO.....and I am curious OTR, are you thinking UHS will breeze thru the regular season? If yes, would you please explain? /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

Has any body seen any scrimmages for district 7AA?

York girls looked good against Gordonsville and Van Buren earlier this week. #22 and #43 can shoot lights out! They have others that shoot well along the perimeter too. They ran the floor well, and played pretty good defense. They could finish in the top 3 in District 7AA.

York can compete for the district title...IMO, I think they are a dangerous club. They return 4 starters from last year and again, IMO, they are only lacking in depth. And they may have that taken care of that, I don't know.

  • 2 weeks later...

The last time Dekalb Co. High School did anything at all was when a coach by the name of Mickey Bilyeu was their coach. The District had White Co., York., Smith Co., Livingston, Cannon Co, Dekalb Co., and Jackson Co. He took Dekalb to the Sub-State, Regional Finals, and finished in the top 3 teams in the district year -in and year -out from the mid-1970's to the mid 1980's. They over doubled the number of wins during the time he was there compared to the previous 10yrs. and they beat some big name schools. At that time he was defeating teams out of that district who had top 10 ratings by USA Today in the nation (Livingston, Cannon Co. and York) and was also defeating top 10 teams in the state such as Rickman High School, Livingston, Cannon Co., Huntland, Warren Co. Cookeville, etc. I just wanted to mention this in that everyone always thinks that Dekalb had been down forever but at one time they were "whipping people."

Mickey Bilyeu is a great coach!!! Love me some Mickey Bilyeu!!! How has he been??? Does anyone know???

Anyone played any games yet? LA plays tonight against Clarksville NE...

I think Upperman is the favorite, but Livingston will probably split with them during the season. LA, like Upperman, didn't really lose anything from last year. Coach Smith has all of her key players returning. Which ever team avoids upsets from York and Smith Co. will be the team to go into the tourney #1.

Coach Smith always finds a way to win late in the season. Could there be 2 teams from 7AA make the State Tourney?

    • It was not ACHS at all, they have zero reason to worry about Clinton.  It had to do with a kid (non football player)  that had a charge and appeared in front of the juvenile judge.  The judge saw that the kid was way behind credit wise for his grade and told him to reappear in a month with a plan to graduate.  When the kid reappeared he had more that twice the credits than one month before.  The judge called BS and contacted the school.  That is what started the investigation.  This involves multiple students, but to this point no athletes are involved.
    • I believe the Covington Chargers travel to Trenton Peabody for a scrimmage today? Anyone going to this? Curious how the Chargers will do.
    • Good ole Bradley Zulliger. He was a really good QB @ OR. Fun to watch.  Wore #15 and was like a mini Tebow, with the exception of being right handed. He could take a pounding and keep on ticking. Played with a collapsed lung against Powell that year. Tough as nails.
    • They should be pretty good in year two for Rang.  Replacing most of the offensive production losing Dozier, Hayward and Rembert , but they're are skill kids in place ready for their shot.  I know I say this every year, but the o line should show improvement after two years in Rang and Kevin Day's weight program.  I still would favor West over Plow and OR come November.  The Rebs will have to grow up a bunch between now and then, and will probably take some lumps along the way with that schedule.  But I predict come playoff time they will be ready.   One of their coaches half joked to me that they could go 5-5 regular season and win the state championship.  Ha ha.
    • there will be a couple of teams, that could make some noise
