Ensworth's Jacob Carter kicked the winning extra point in the second overtime as the visiting Tigers defeated McCallie, 37-36, in a TSSAA D-II high school football game Friday night at Spears Stadium. McCallie scored first in the second overtime on a Joey Skogen 2 yard run, but Ensworth blocked the attempted extra point by John Brock and the Tornado led 36-30. Ensworth quarterback Tavarres Jefferson scored on a third and 10 play from the McCallie 10 to tie the game to set up Carter's heroics. The Tigers remain unbeaten (5-0, 4-0), while McCallie is 3-3, 1-2.

"McCallie is the toughest team in Division II we have played,'' said Ensworth coach Ricky Bowers. "We both had chances and missed opportunities to win the game.'' Ensworth fumbled and threw an interception in McCallie territory in regulation. McCallie quarterback Kennon Rush threw two interceptions in regulation. McCallie blocked an Ensworth punt late in the fourth quarter and drove to the Tigers five yard line. But a field goal attempt at the end of regulation was blocked.

"Both teams played tough out there tonight,'' said McCallie coach Rick Whitt. "And we both had chances to win. We'll go back to work and our guys will be ready for Baylor next week.''

The game was tied at 22 at the end of regulation and tied at 30 at the end of the first overtime. Ensworth's Orleans Opoku-Darkwa led all rushers with 272 yards on 34 carries and three touchdowns. Skogen was McCallie's top rusher with 81 yards on 15 carries and the one touchdown in overtime.

Notes: The game had seven lead changes ... McCallie's largest lead was seven (22-15) in the 4th quarter on a Patton Watkins 32-yard field goal at 7:32 ... Ensworth's largest lead was eight at 30-22 after the first possession in the first overtime.

On McCallie's possession, the hosts had fourth and seven and Rush completed a 7 yard scoring pass to John Burkus followed by a Brock three yard scamper into the Ensworth end zone to send the game to a second overtime.

McCallie and EHS went to OT earlier in the year. (at McCallie, at EHS this time) I'll give the edge to EHS for home field advantage, but watch for McCallie to rebound after a loss to MBA.

The last game was a nail biter as EHS pulled out the victory in overtime. I don't expect this game to be as close as the last one because McCallie is traveling to Ensworth this time. This is a very tough opponent for the tigers in the first round of the playoffs.

McCALLIE HASNT BEEN ABLE TO RECRUIT AS MANY OWLS AS THEY HAVE IN THE PAST, BLUE TORNADO WILL BE OUT FIRST ROUND

"Ignorant and or stupid is directed at posters who regularly accuse private schools of recruiting with no evidence other than silly fifth hand heresay, i.e. I know a guy who has a cousin who has a neighbor who works with a guy who knows a kid who was invited to attend a football game in which a private school was playing."

Sorry to reuse a post from another string but you fit the descpription to a "T". I can hardly wait for next year's big Ooltewah McCallie game. Oh wait! Big bad Ooltewah won't play McCallie. Too bad. The game would fill Finley but I suppose it would highlight Ooltewah's deficiencies.
