Unicoi looks to be the favor in the wautaga confrence once again. With Miller and Headley return from last year as leaders and also has added length with Whitson and Lyle who are 6'4" and long. And a big presence down low 6'5" Turner. They are also going to be very deep on the bench with Corn and Tolley. Unicoi should cause alot of matchup problems this year. They are very strong defensively and is going to keep trying to push it like they did last year. So you know what that means?? Another undeafted confrence championship.

Is Unicoi County playing in the Arby's Classic this year?

I wish Dobyns Bennett would schedule the Blue Devils, a home/away series. I think it would be a good gate in Kingsport and especially in Erwin.

I agree to very tough teams with great coaches

Maybe next year, Dobyns Bennett has 16 conference games and 4 out of conference games scheduled (Greeneville and Cherokee (Home/Away)). After the reclassification next year, however, when there are less teams in Class AAA District 1, I could see this match up happening. Hope to see it.

Again, though, is Unicoi County going to be part of the local tournament field in the Arby's Classic this year?

They are not playing in the arby's again this year. played one year and didn't get asked back last year because of graduating 7 seniors the previous year and then went 30-4 last year. no one expected them to do that. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

Yeah everybody is still waiting on that drop off but it just hasn't happened and prolbably wont. Unicoi would have been in the arbys this year but they already had signed the contract to play in the hardees classic and a tournament in Florida and your only allowed to play in two tournaments per season.

Unicoi must have a great coach. One of their former players (who I guess would have been a senior this year) was just named preseason player of the year in the Piedomont District by the local ESPN radio station in Martinsville, Virginia. They would have been even tougher to beat.

do you know a name for that player????? /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

This is just a complete guess going off the people who have moved to Virginia that would in this year's graduating class...but would that player be Zakk Hale?

Just a guess.

    • also was told coady auston applied, he served as defensive coordinator for greenfield under don pitt several years ago before going to Obion county
    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
    • stop it, rlh. you’re gonna get me all misty eyed and sentimental.    i see seven fairly regularly. ….but slim shady, that’s like spotting bigfoot on main street. you just hope he doesn’t spot you.
    • Are you trying to say you didn't find Seven and ShadySlim going at it?
