Regarding DBs, I would guess lots of times offensive backs and receivers are pushed to those spots leaving out some who do well at either corner or safety.

Indian, that's Old Pirate's point....................It happens all the time and is WRONG in this OP's view. Simply stated you are what you are. RBs making it as DBs when they rarely play that position is flat wrong. OP scratches the head every time these things come out and there is always those type of selections. How can a player be an Allstate player as a OL or DB when he is not a starter on his respective team in that position?

THE FACT IS......IT'S MORE OF A POPULARITY SELECTION THAN PLAYER POSITION PERFORMANCE.

I wish these threads had not gotten merged. They were totally different subjects. One thread was related to the Sports Writers All-State team and the other was the TASA Coaches all-state team. Not much common ground between the two.

ok i get it now. i just sorta jumped in about page 4, and it was alot of information jumbled together, i was really confused.

What postions does he play? What is his size?

Ricky lines-up in multiple postions in Cascade's offense. His primary is wingback, but he will also line-up as a slot receiver, a split receiver and as QB in a "Wild Hog"-type package. He is a 2-year starter at corner, and was All-region his soph. year for his play at corner (obviously, he made the All-region team again this year). Ricky did not have eye-popping stats in any single category this year, but if you add his rushing totals, receiving totals and return yardage, he had approximately 2,000 all-purpose yards. As far as size, he is about 5'8", 160 pounds. He will not light-up a stop watch in the 40, but he has a completely different gear on game night.

Just can't understand the kicker situation. Jared White from Trousdale was the top kicker all year earning him Mr. Football Kicker! What on earth made them pick Josh Lenoir over him???

Jared White was recognized as the all-state punter, Josh LeNoir as the kicker. If you take away punting, what are Jared White's kicking stats? Did he play on the field, too or just kick? Here are Josh's stats:

Kicking: 35 of 37 PATs. Only 2 he missed were after he scored on long runs or multiple short runs at fullback. He made 6 of 8 field goals, the longest 47 yds, and was perfect from 47 yards and less. Don't know how many touchbacks on kickoffs, but always 2 or 3 per game.

This is a player who played linebacker on defense (42 tackles), and fullback on offense (12 touchdowns). The only time he left the field was punt and kickoff receiving teams. In 11 games, he scored 125 points.

Jared White deserved Mr. Football Kicker, no doubt about it. But no one should be chosen as the allstate punter on the defensive team, and the allstate kicker on the offensive team. If you do that, you open a big can of worms for all the 1A players who play both ways.

A kicker should be judged on his kicking skills. The all-state kicker should be chosen on kicking stats only and Jared White was tops. Who cares what else he did? He's classified as a kicker.
