Pickett Co. girls and boys are both playing up in russellville, ky the next three days. I have no idea who they are playing but I've got someone who is gonna be at the games and call me and tell me scores and stuff. I'll post them and stuff on here. Hope the boys can go up there, and just get away from everyone and come together as a team and get ready for the second half of the season.

Boys won tonight by 3 is what my dad told me over the phone, no other details. Said the girls won their first game today, and said they played tonight as well.

they played Metcalfe County & Russell County and won 59-40 and 64-57 respectively this puts them 3-0 in the classic have no idea when or if they play tomorrow but 3-0 in a classic they had won last year isnt bad. This should give them momentum going into their game with Friendship this weekend.

boys games

Hancock County, KY 52 Pickett 36

Pickett 40 Butler County, KY 37

oh boy... at least being away from some VERY rabid fans at the den has done some good for both teams, now if i could just convince some fans to stay off of coaches Walker, Bibb and Smith's butts... which i'm getting very frustrated with certain fans calling for their heads... you fans are a part of the problem you know... trying to flog a dead mule is the same thing as what you are doing here, the boys lost 4 guys last year and you expect it to be just another team... no not gonna happen, i love the boys to death but it'll take a LOT of maturation to be the same team they were last year, i'll give fair warning to the rest of the district though, do not expect to walk all over BOTH teams the second half of the season, this tourny will have taught them well. *end rant*

I also agree with the last guy who said that people should stay off of the coach's backs. These coaches are good...I mean they have had some of the best teams in the district for quite a while now, especially on the boys side so it is about time for a down year....and this year may not end as down as it is looking right now. This second half of the season should be interesting to see how they have matured and see who they can suprise. Girls are really going to make some noise with Garner back now and she will be back in great form by the end of the regular season....everyone should be clicking. Could be a big shocker in store for Clarkrange or JC!!!

Coach Walker? a good coach? Come on guys, don't think for one moment he is a good coach. I'm not saying this from my experience, because I never played for Walker. I'm going from what the guys have told me who have played for him the last couple of years in JV. I have no idea how Walker got the job. You guys know that this guy sat at the end of the bench for all four years of high school right? If this was karate, then I'd want Walker teaching these kids, cause he knows it. But he has no idea how to coach basketball, I'm glade he has an interest in these kids, but you have to know a little something about basketball. As for Bibb, he's doing the best with what he's got this year, and in a couple of years, he is gonna have a good team, maybe even next year. If he can get an assistant coach, to help develop the younger freshman and sophomores, then they will stay good. Coach Smith? I hope your not talking about me on this one, I've sung his praises from day one. Thought he was the right hire, thought he has done a great job, finally got us back to region last year. And now, he's starting to get this team playing good ball, he's installed a different direction and offense and defense, which I'll let you see for yourself, because I don't wanna give anything away. This girls team can play with anyone in the state, thing is, the other two best teams in the state may be in their own district, but they only need to beat one of them.

actualy it was 3 years and yes i know this because i sat RIGHT NEXT to him on the bench, trust me he's better than people think and i was in no way pointing to you with that statement, there are some fans unfortunately in our gym that love to blame EVERYTHING on the coaches when some of this should go to the players or to the fans themselves for putting too much pressure on the kids.

100% agreed on Coach Bibb, given a year or 2 more this team will be ready to challange for a state title berth no problems, it's just a shame they didn't make it in last year.

Coach Smith i know very well as i spent 2 years under him and know what he is capable of, heck i still remember all the plays he ran and he runs them today to great success, the girls i think have finally found their rhythm especialy after going 4-0 in KY this week, and getting Tara back helps a LOT as we now have a good presence under the basket alongside Garrett, Next up Friendship, hopefully this will be the test the girls needed to get back in this season, mark my words 6-4 in the district is doable, as long as the girls keep 3 words in their mind: "Win" and "Have Fun". Yes it is possible.

I think the other poster was talking about the girls. I don't think anyone on this board from PC expects us to win more than 3 district games on the boys side, but on the girls side..... They put a scare into Clarkrange, it was four points at half. The Jackson Co. game was a terribly called game for both teams, with both teams having a tremendous amount of fouls called. It would have been closer if PC didn't have 4 starters foul out. Their is no excuse for the clay co lose for that loss. Nor the Monterey loss. All I will say about all these loss-Clay co, is that none of those games was Tarah Garner available. If she had played against Clarkrange, they might just have knocked them off. I think it is very possible for this team to end the season no worse than 5-5, and its definitely possible to go 6-4. They are playing a totally different and offense and defensive game than they did in the first half.

    • Harriman was better than what I anticipated. They had good skill guys and a QB that’s gonna make a lot of teams look silly. They had some silly pre snap penalties but it’s just spring and I guess that’s expected.    Oneida looks the part. They are big upfront and got a stable of backs that’s gonna carry them this year. They have a few playmakers at receiver also. They have a new receiver that has only played basketball till this year and he is very athletic. The question is can we find a QB to consistently get them the ball. They played 2-3 kids there and none looked great but they didn’t look awful either. The  defense is gonna be tough again but it’s very early and a lot can change between now and the fall.     It was good just to get out and watch some ball. I don’t know if Oneida has the team to win the region this year but just what I saw tonight I think they may be in the conversation come November.
