This really did start as something i did for fun. That was also a time when coaches would send in results and you didn't have to do half of the digging that you have to do now. With the amount of parents, coaches, and fans that would rather not participate, and the amount of complaints about them, would the wrestling community rather not have them? I totally understand either way, and please feel free to speak freely. I'd just like to put it to a vote.

I think that we should keep the rankings it gives us wrestlers something to work for. I'm not up there and i have done well against some ppl that are up there, but u dont see me taking it personaly. I am just gonna work harder so that i can prove the rankings wrong when i beat the people on top of the list.

Great dicussions, I see good and bad in the rankings. I support doing away with the rankings and maybe simply post the individuals high school record. It is factual data, not a opinion. Granted, people will argue who's schedule is tougher, but that's ok, it will get sorted out at the larger tournaments thru the season and ultimately in Chatanooga.

Again, FACTS are the only way to go. Too much personal opinion involved here, and if someone likes one kid more than another, that will effect how the "rankings" are done, and this in turns effects how the kid is looked upon by others.

If there is no personal opinion, then there can be no rankings. Most of the ranked rasslers have not grappled with each other, so how do you propose to put them in order, maybe by height, or ACT scores for the Juniors and Seniors?

Are you saying that the current rankings are based on the kid's personalities? I think the guys currently doing the rankings spend hours and hours digging through facts...head to head match ups, common opponent results, number of pins, techs, etc. When facts don't support how the kids need to be ranked, an opinion would seem to be a necessity. 2blLeg, you have respectfully expressed opposition to the rankings, yet you have not offered any specific suggestions for improvement. Simply saying the rankings should be based on facts alone is noble, but not the least bit suggestive or helpful. Could you offer a specific example...i.e. your ranking for a specific weight class?

BC, you are correct. The wrestlers want the opportunity to wrestle the best. When a ranked walks into a gym, things are more buzzed. A person wants what can make him important and that's the dud with the RANK.

Hold on now, jakesdad, I do not; nor have I, ever expressed opposition against the rankings. I said I do like them, and it helps me learn the other kids from around the state.

My suggestions have been to rank the kids only where they wrestle. By ranking them in a lower weight class, where they have yet to compete, is done mainly by opinion and is not fair to those kids that have wrestled in that class. Rankings should be done based on head to head, record and strength of schedule, wrestling up in class, and those same factors taken into consideration whey they do.

My other points have been that to all the other adults (not the ones doing the rankings) that the kids take this very seriously, so don't say it's only for fun.

Now, does that help explain my position on where I stand?

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
