That's worst case senerio "Memphis to Mountain City" several substate games every year are two hours plus every year anyway... I'll tell you what... don't buy two packs of cigarettes a day, or play to play the lottery everyday and you can make the trip as well... I tell you what you can do... the week of the game you can give me $4 day and I'll set it back for you and by the end of the week you can go... I mean come on... average travel would probably be 4-5 hrs and you get a better possible state tourney... with all the best teams... It would only be one game...

its 4 hours for us east tennesseeans to nashville. and by your talk on here you want the entire state tournament field to be comprised of all memphis or west teams because us east teams are inferior to you. i'm not talking about me. i'm talking about for the schools. that is a long haul for anyone on a bus that is getting a whole 10 miles per gallon. and food for the players and coaches for the trip. that would be at least 3 meals if you turned around and drove all the way home after the game. and 4 if you ended up staying the night because of the distance and the time. just have your team practice a little more and maybe they can beat one of those teams to make it. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

Once again... These regions are lacking compared to the rest of the state... I don't know if Fulton is in region 2 or region 3 but... if there in region 3 then Region 1 and 2 doesn't have anyone left participating...

Keep playing on the mountain..., then go to state for one game and go right back up there...

Maybe they are some football teams out of the east that feels the same way you do look at Loudon they have been the second best team in the state a couple of times but had to play alcoa early in the play offs and Central the same way behide Marrville get over it

Well, maybe you don't fully comprehend the concept of a STATE championship tournament. When they use the word STATE they are referring to the entire STATE. Not just the area in which you live. You see Tennessee consists of 95 counties roughly 41,217 square miles containing small towns, cities, and other small defined geographical areas all just as important as the next. So now that I have that explained to you. Lets see if I can make you understand the importance of every opportunity for each of those small towns, cities and other small defined geographical areas being able to compete in these tournaments. If we follow your logic then the Tennessee Titans,Nashville Predators, Memphis Grizzlies and others should not be able to play in their perspective championships. Because they are from a small STATE named Tennessee and they won't win and are not giving other programs, which are better a opportunity to win. As well,we should not send any representatives to the US Senate or to Congress. Because we should give the opportunity to the other states to make all the laws cause they are better than us. I surely hope after reading this you will realize just how idiotic your schema is for determining who should play in the STATE tournaments. By the way I am just a dumb Bulldog from Hampton. My opinion probably doesn't matter, since you are probably better than me. Fortunately, this is CoachT, and not CoachRegionEverythingBut..1&2.com

Just stating my opinion in basketball... go back and look at the last 32 state championships from each class... Football could use some change as well... as the east does dominate it... but this is a basketball board and not a football board... or congress board or tenn titans board, or Predators board... so my opinion was stated merely for basketball purposes... Nowhere on my post have I written anything about being better than anyone... I have been to Hampton on a few occasions and the people seem the exact same as where I'm from... nice and laid back...

So I just want to make it clear to you... This is a basketball board, I'm posting my opinions regarding basketball, when football heats up... I'll give you mine their... but if you can't see that region 1 and 2 are lacking compared to the rest of the state... you might be one of the few dumb bulldogs from Hampton... No offense you somewhat called it yourself...

you are probley the stupidest person ive ever read on here, seriously! no where in your rambling have you came close to making any logical opinion. the way the state tourney is set up is fine, its the way its always been. there is no way to determine before the state who is better, thats why they play the games. i jus got back from murfreesboro last nite an i got to witness some things, west tn's schools fan base is a joke. they didnt bring anyone. when a small town single a school goes they back each other. for instance summertown, they had twice as many fans as anyone there, an thats one of the smallest schools that was there. thats what its all about for some of these east tn teams, and you wanna take thaty away?

your probably right... let's get the TSSAA to go around each year and figure out who carries the best fan base around with them... then at the end of the year... instead of getting the best teams to go... we'll get the teams with the best fan support... fill up the murphy center and then play it out to see who's the best... because it's not about getting the best teams to play it out, but it is about creating a good atmosphere and getting some money back to the TSSAA... It may appear as though I am rambling around, but it's hard to reply to three posters at one time...

Also, I don't want to take anything away from any East Tenn teams... What I want is the best 8 teams from tennessee playing for the gold ball... you currently do not get that due to geo... regions...

Since 2000 there have been 4 state runner-ups and 3 state champs from region 1 and 2 in boys basketball. In that same time frame 8 state champs were from East Tennessee and 10 state runner-ups. You can't just have a comity going around and trying to evaluate teams because on any given night one team can beat the other. The tourneyment right now is as fair as you can get.

If you go back and look at past state championships you can't argue with the success West TN teams have had. They have won 53 state championships since 1976 (in all 3 classifications - not counting private schools) and Middle and East TN teams have won 23 a piece. There's no doubt that Memphis plays great basketball and always competes for state championships in each division. If you break it down by classification then Middle TN has won the most A championships (Middle 15, West 12, East 6), but West TN has won the most AA (West 24, Middle 3, East 6) and AAA championships (West 17, Middle 5, East 11). It is obvious that West TN produces the best basketball teams historically.

Those who want to argue about football, the trends are much different. Since 1969 there have been a total of 182 state championships (152 public - 30 private). Out of those 182 championships Middle TN has won 78, East TN 69, and West TN 37. East TN has won the most public championships (East 67, Middle 63, West 22) while Middle TN has won the most private championships (Middle 15, West 13, East 2). The divisions have changed over the course of time and have gone from 3 classifications to 5 (now 6 beginning next year). Also, 2 (at one point 3) private divisions have been created. Here's the breakdown of state championships by classification in football:

A - Middle 18, East 15, West 7

AA - East 21, Middle 13, West 6

AAA - East 18, Middle 15, West 7

AAAA - East 11, Middle 4, West 1

AAAAA - Middle 13, East 2, West 1

IIA - West 7, Middle 5, East 0

IIAA - Middle, 7, West 4, East 1

IIAAA - Middle 3, West 2, East 1

Looking at past records and championships one can see that West TN dominates basketball while Middle and East TN dominates football. Most of you on here already know this but thought I'd give you some numbers to go along with all the arguing...

yes, but I'm not really arguing that fact... I'm saying regions 1 and 2 historically... vs... all the other regions... in basketball especially 1A...

I'll give you AE and Fulton in 2A, year in and year out they are competetive no matter the location you put them in...

When you say East Tenn... you also through in the Chatt Teams and I don't have an issue with them historically speaking... I'm talking reg 1 and 2

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
