Doorman
So now that the Panther baseball season is over, what do you think went wrong? New coach, returning starters (mostly seniors)... the ingredients were there but only won 3 games total and 0 in the district. People seemed so optimistic about this year. What happened? Seymourbutts, what are your thoughts?
Guest
I viewed all the discussion about Portland's new coach and "New Attitude" with much interest and reserved judgement. I am sure the new coach does a great job. I am also clear on one fact that seemed to be obscured in all the discussion, you had a great coach in Coach Thompson. The talent well has run dry in P-Town. The Daughterys, Rays, Boltons, Brooks, Conyers, Thayers, Depriests and Ballentines are no longer wearing the Purple as players.
9-holebomber
I got to see the Portland Panthers in action on several seperate occasions this season. For the most part there seemed to be a lot of talent on the field but not much unity. The coaching seemed to be there, but without unity no team will do well. I have heard that Portland did not show much "class", whether winning or losing, throughout there season. In my opinion that is another recipe for disaster. You guys need to pick up golf or something. Getting on here to analyze the season is desperate. Coaching staff did a great job with the level of talent that is there. JP has a great attitude and knows how to win but that just don't happen. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> Did the P-town gossip clan expect to get out of that district this year? Look for the good things, not what went wrong. Move on with the positive and leave the negative behind. That right there may be a big part of the problem. Gee, Seymour, take a chill pill. No need to take this so personally. How is my asking your thoughts on what went wrong this year "rubbing it in your face"? I am simply opening the post season up for discussion just like you started a topic on the improvement of phs baseball. Do you agree with Chalktalk that the talent level is down or with 9-holebomber that there was no unity on the team? Since you are graduating, maybe you could be a leader and shed some light on what changes could be made for next year's players. Thanks, Big Man! Its hard to find positive when you only won three games and they were all against 1A teams not only did we not win a district game in 2A but next year the glass will be empty (no optimism) because we will be in 3A were the competition is a lot better. The best thing that can happen is that Portland opens up 2 more high schools and we can all be 1A were we belong and we can compete. There is always next year PHS Strawberry champs 10'
mikemsimpson45
i know two players are receiving interest from colleges. not a good season, but im torn up the season is over but thanks for rubbing it in my face. big man. The coach has taken Porltand back to the stone ages. He could only beat single A teams at his old school before he got FIRED and that is all he can beat now. As far as college, hah, you are kidding yourself. It is not very smart to spread false reports. All because someone gets invited to a weak tryout that is not interest, that is a bone. The closest to a college field you will see is watching from the stands. This whole season you and your comments have been a joke. You know nothing about baseball, good coaching or leadership. As long as JP is head coach the program will be bad.
