MBA v. Riverdale scrimmage

This scrimmage summary is posted from the 6A board by TDCman:

 

"Good scrimmage today at MBA. I had the score, overall 37-27 Riverdale. I had the first team 21-10 Riverdale.

 

Both teams showed promise on offense with Riverdale showing some good balance and, believe it or not, unpredictability. MBA looked best when executing their short passing game.

 

The defense on both sides has a long way to go, but it is just the first scrimmage. The Riverdale defense just has to get much more aggressive and intense.

 

Riverdale has a lot of injured players walking the sideline. Hope they can get more healthy in the next few weeks.

 

MBA has a really good looking kicker. He nailed everything including a field goal over 50 yards.

 

Riverdale hit a field goal. I don't even remember the Warriors attempting a field goal last year.

 

Good start Warriors!!"

 

I'd be interested to hear any feedback from any MBA supporters who were there. Disapointed that we "lost", but I'm sure it was a controlled scrimmage with a lot of kids getting a look. I still can't believe they had a scrimmage in July!

You never want to put a lot of stock in a first scrimmage, but Roll Red Roll had mentioned to me previously that there is some concern over the line on both sides of the ball. MBA seems pretty strong offensively in 7 v 7 games (for whatever that's worth), but if the line is iffy, a lot of that becomes meaningless.

 

They have some decent players, and there's still plenty of time left. They may be a little thin on experience this season, so you certainly don't want to see any injuries.

It's funny, I can't remember having to be concerned about the lines ever. It seems like every August the worry is with the backfield or the QB, or the WR's or maybe the DB"S, but not the lines. I suspect that this will get rectified by the time the season starts. I know it's very early, but...one would expect the defense to be dominant early and the offense to slowly catch up. Sounds like the defense has some work to do. Again, though, not that concerned yet. I must say, I'm really excited about the potential of this offense this year. I think they're going to a lot of points on the board.

      Im asking everyone to keep roy whited and his family in your prayers. Coach whited won back to back state championships at white county in 98-99. He is very well liked and respected in this area. For those of you that dont know he went missing 3 days ago. No one knows where he is. His truck was found in a rural part of the county. Thanks again. We are all very concerned.

      West would be a good team to get behind if they can pull it off again like last year. That championship game last year was awesome.

      I say that because he stepped out of a MUCH better situation on his own than he would see at least his first 3 years at DCA and it would take at least that much to bring him back to coaching. There are other fish in the sea, but again money talks. Need to fix the girls hoops too. Now I'll try again. Who has Pierce locked in for his staff? Hearing a McGavock man but not the Iceman.

      I’ve heard mostly good things from the gridiron. Lots of optimism. It sounds like the portal has mostly helped, though there are a few expected defections. Comeback year!

      Rudesell 1 year at Crockett. Coach Tate 2 weeks a Bradford. South Gibson supposedly going with jcs middle school coach. Which isn’t who I thought would get it, I know the top 2 was between him and Obion girls head coach.
