What I am trying to figure out is how you people expect the county schools to change their stadiums? I mean seriously they cant just run to the local business man and say hey we need this and this and this... and aside from not having the funding these kids deserve to play Greeneville at home just like every other team.... FOOTBALL IS NOT ABOUT THE FANS, IT IS ABOUT THE PLAYERS. Lastly, anytime a team plays at Greeneville, Greeneville will have home field advantage. The fields is turf and anyone who has played football on artificial turf knows there is a difference and it takes a little to get used to it. Greeneville practices on it everyday so they are used to it...that seems like home field advantage no matter what to me....

Greeneville's turf is more like grass than artificial turf. Artificial turf is like playing on outdoor carpet on top of asphalt. Nobody really wants them to change. It is just more beneficial to make money. Football's money makes all of the money to fund every other little sport, PERIOD. It's that way in High School and College. All of the bowling teams and soccer teams should be thankful that Football does what they do. The county schools would make more by playing at Greeneville than they would at their places. We all know $$$ makes the world go around anyway. Greeneville doesn't buy Conference Championships they WORK for them! Enrollment places us with Chuckey-Doak and West Greene. South Greene has the biggest argument because they are the smallest.

I know its not artificial turf, but it is different to play on. I've played on all 3 (grass, turf like greeneville's, and artificial turf), and there is a difference in all of them. Also enrollment wise you have a point. South Greene is the smallest AA school in the state, only missing A by like 7 students. It is sad to think they're still the most competitive in the conference of the "county" schools.

Yeah we Devil fans can commiserate with you about being the little fish in the big pond....nice to know the little fish aren't always bait...

True, Barb! GHS will play Jefferson Co. with enrollment of 2318; Sullivan South with 1094. The teams of the past: Morristown West with 1409, East with 1464, Cherokee with 1218, Cocke County with 1343, Daniel Boone with 1407, Crockett with 1346. Didn't hear the Devils whinning. Just happy to be able to compete and in most cases successfully compete. So all of you guys that are acting like GHS has a chip on its shoulder, we've walked where you "think" you're walking, because in all actuality, GHS is a lot smaller than the guys mentioned above than we are to the team of the new conference.

Go percentages and compare... i do believe Greeneville is twice the size of South Greene so technically thats a little bit bigger of a difference...

First of all, I have been known to be wrong. Secondly, when I was a student at GHS and in college, I was taught that twice the size meant double. If you will take a look at the TSSAA website, www.tssaa.org, you'll see that SGHS is listed with a student enrollment of 531. GHS is listed as 892. In my caluclations double would be 1062. GHS is a few, 170 students from being double the size. So, sorry! Your arguement still doesn't stand! Oh well, Go Devils anyhow!

Just got back from the jamboree and all I can say is "Man them devils looked good!" As we all expected South greene is the best county school as usual. After seeing everyone play today, as long as Greeneville stays healthy, they'll run away with the conference. South Greene looked pretty good, West Greene looked terrible, North Greene and Chuckey Doak looked pretty even. All in all a good day of football.

Torch, how many times do i have to tell you that size doesn't matter.....

Getting back to the Jamboree....i thought SG got away with one tonight, gonna have to have a whole lotta those big plays to overcome the shortcomings in the defense. The Rebels just plain got lucky. No way they could have played with Cumberland Gap for 4 quarters...definitely have the talent but a whole lot of work to do. Greeneville seemed to be in mid-season condition. Good to see Quarles show his stuff. Kinda felt sorry for those boys from Grainger. They finally got a drive going against the Devil subs and threw the pick... I thought West Greene showed a lot of promise....just didn't execute particularly well.I fully expect the Buffs to be ready to go when conference play begins full swing....don't underestimate them.

I got way too hot to stick around for the CD vs NG quarter...it's heck being an old lady in the heat. :thumb: How did it go?

In case you didn't know SG's 1st team O and D only played the first series and the O scored with just 2 plays. The rest of the quater was second 2nd & 3rd string. I don't think it was luck. Last year SG beat them 42-20. Who won the WG/Claiborne quarter? We left before they were done and it was still 0-0. Your right it was just too hot!

Thanks for the score update on WG. We had to leave, it was just too darn hot to sit there any longer.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
