as a Williamson County resident it is fun to keep up with all the schools close by, but honestly who is really talking about BGA, they have been a non-factor for to long.

As for some of these posts by Franklin students, I sure as heck hope they do not represent the spelling prowess of the rest of the school...

I will be at the game to cheer for the Rebels, but I dont really expect it to be much of a game.

BGA won 3 state championships in the 90's and three this decade with the last coming in 2003. They won eight games last season and lost to the state champions in the playoffs. However, they are certainly a big underdog in the game Friday night.

Also won state in 1966 at the then state top classification, no public/private class.

There is an excellent article in the Williamson Am about this game. There is a picture of Franklin's 1925 team and quotes from coach Ralph Brown who played for BGA in the 40's. Good stuff.

I would like to see more HS football history articles like this.

But the Tennessean reporter, Mitchell Kline, is confused when it come to financial aid and scholarships at private schools.

He states, "Being a private school, BGA can draw student-athletes from all over the midstate. And some are offered scholarships."

This reporter doesn't do his homework and provide the facts.

DII schools cannot just offer scholarships. The parents of the student-athlete have to provide tax returns and apply for financial aid. The application goes to a clearing house for approval or disapproval.

The clearing house does not know whether the student is an athlete or not.

If approved the student will get some financial aid while the parents cover the rest.

Please don't start a public vs private debate on this string.

Go to the PUBLIC/PRIVATE forum.

Coach Clayton spoke at a Rotary meeting today. He was instrumental in this game finally being played. He thinks the FHS defense will be bigger and better this year. His offense will improve as the season goes on due to the new linemen and qb. They have a tremendous kicking game with the Gentry kid. Expect FHS to run 90% of the time even though Clayton loves the passing game.

On another note, Coach Clayton and other coaches hate the new playoff system. The TSSAA needs to listen to the coaches before making these kinds of decisions..the new system is bad for the Williamson County programs and it makes no sense what they are doing.

thanks for the report. I wonder why Clayton thinks the defense will be better than last years? I do not see any big guys so why would he ever say they'd be bigger? The offense will have to carry this team. We have three very good running backs and a good young QB. Spread the ball around and let's win some games. :thumb: Who will lead as the WR canditdate to step up? That is the main question.

Playoffs? Playoffs? We got along way to go to worry about that :roflol:
