It will be a long night for the Buccaneers, I am afraid. They are replacing their entire offensive backfield and at least half their o and d line. Their scrimmages have not been real impressive. They do return one really good o lineman in Jamie Howell (6'3" 300+) and a good lb/fullback in Jonathan Sites. The 6'4" te (John Taylor) has chosen not to play football and concentrate solely on basketball. Beech will be very young, starting a jr. qb who has pretty good size and a good arm, but very little experience. Several soph's will see a lot of time. Opening up against a good 6A team is probabaly not what the doctor ordered. They have also been bitten by the injury bug in preseason. Nothing season ending for anyone I don't think, but there have been 5 or 6 kids out who will see significant time before the season is over.

I was at part of today’s practice and boy, do the Bulldogs look sharp!! This is their first full week of preparation for Beech and they look ready. It would not be right for me to write what I saw but I will say this, the Bulldogs seem to be very focused and seem to be doing all the right things. I think the O-line is still a bit banged up but may be ready to go Friday. We will see.

One day closer boys and girls!!!

I can't wait. I'll most likely be there when the gate open Friday night. I can't stand it any more.....lets get it on!!!

Go Bulldogs!

Thanks Warhawks!!!!

Not sure why we have 2 threads going here but this one seems to be the most active so let keep it up top.

Go Bulldogs!!!!, 2 more practices for the opening game. Play hard and keep the silly mistakes down and I think the bulldogs take this one.

28-10 Bulldogs

Go get'em Dogs!!!!!!!!

Well, it was 21-0 (Smyrna) but Smyrna was pretty sloppy. I think the D was very solid on the ground but a bit loose with the ball in the air......The O look like "world beater" on the first drive then things got a bit shaky. You can tell they are very talented but they made some silly mistakes and the O line was average at best tonight. Thank goodness the D was stout or this would have been a scary one for us Bulldog fans.

It's a W and we go to Brentwood for a big one next week.

Let's clean it up Bulldogs........prepare well.........and go to Brentwood with a chip on your shoulders. :thumb:

Any Beech folk out there?? Or for that matter Non-Smyrna folks that saw the game. I love to hear your thoughts on the opener last night.

I observed the game from the Beech side of the field and, from the Beech perspective, saw some positives and some negatives. First, Smyrna's defense is pretty impressive. I like the way they swarm to the ball. I commented to those around me several times about how many purple shirts surrounded the ball carrier. I was also impressed with the qb. Thought he had some nice touch on his passes.

For the Beech positives, I was fairly impressed how Beech's defense was able to contain most runs to the inside, but had problems with the outside runs. I believe it was twice, Smyrna had the ball deep in Beech territory and Beech's defense was able to prevent them from scoring. Pass defense though is still a work in progress.

The Beech offense, it looks to me, is still being tweaked, but what a good time to work on it against a quality opponent. The o line, I thought, was inconsistent. They ran the ball well at times, but also had trouble containing the rush. The qb had some good throws, when he had time, but was under pressure quite a bit. It appears to me that the team needs to keep working and the improvement will come with each game as the inexperienced guys get good reps. I think Coach Crabtree and staff will keep working hard to find the right combinations on offense and defense. Overall, I thought Beech hung tough with a quality Smyrna team that many people didn't give them a chance to compete with. The score, IMO, didn't indicate the toughness of the game.

    • Gleason all over west Carroll in scrimmage. Gleason is big and fast
    • Defending 2A state Champs Westview Lady Chargers are pretty tough. They lost a bunch of production off last year's squad but returned some talent as well. They still McCall Simms, a Tennesseee Lady Vol softball commit as well as solid talent around the diamond. I dont think they are as good as last season but they will definitely be a tough out. Huntingdon Lady Mustangs seem to be pretty stout as well. Don't know much about Riverside other than Westview defeated them earlier in regions. West Tennessee softball is pretty solid all around id say.
    • Eagleville couldn’t catch up to Jones, he did have his location issues but in that game Eagleville popped up everything and the one hit they did have could have been ruled an error. Jeffcoat was a lot sharper in the beginning of the season last year than the end. ER ran out of pitching and still was in striking distance but none the less the better team one. Last seasons tournament was A LOT more balanced and talented. South Pitts starter is a Lefty who was low 80’s but couldn’t maintain his velo throughout the  outing, their #2 was more impressive last year, we knocked him around this year and his mph was down some. Their #3 isn’t bad neither, throws a lot of strikes and sits high 70’s.
    • He actually had a really solid spring.  I could see him getting some backup snaps on offense and be a regular on special teams.  Really athletic kid who can run.
