Powell wins 31-0. A pretty sloppy game, all around. Powell had the ball inside the SD 35 on every single drive, except for two drives (one being the last drive of the game). The Panthers have a stable full of solid running backs, with Deshawn Mobley leading the way. Their depth really showed after halftime, running all over the SD defense. I think the running game will be a bit better than last year. The receiving corps looked good, although there were a couple of dropped passes. Both quarterbacks made some plays, but there were too many turnovers. The one thing that this team lacks on offense, versus last season, is the ability to throw the deep ball (not to mention Kier Houston's escapability). I was impressed with the McPhetridge's mobility at QB however.

SD looked, well, very young. They even looked pitiful at times. SD had just 3 first downs all night. They were dominated at the line of scrimmage and had no ability to throw the football (only one pass attempt). They actually had a chance to be tied at the half, after #27 had a long run down to the 1 yard line. SD fumbled on the next play. That was the story of the night for SD. The Cherokees probably turned the ball over 6 times (Powell turned it over 4 times, I think). There were a few occasions where the QB took the snap and couldn't make a clean handoff, which led to a handful of fumbles. SD only had 100 yards of total offense (half gained on that long run). Kudos to Powell's defense for dominating up front and pitching the shutout, but it was clear that SD has a limited playbook. I think I counted 3, maybe 4 plays that were run repeatedly (Read option-right, read option-left, read option-middle, QB keeper). That's Clark Duncan football for you - repeatedly running between the tackles.

Powell will definitely have a tough game versus Fulton next week. Good luck Panthers!

S-D is in need of a quarterback and line. The defense did a good job of holding Powell but if you are on the field 90 percent of the time you are bound to get tired and that is what happened late in the game. S-D gives the ball to Powell inside the 50 every time. The defense was just tired, they might not be big but they were fast. I give my hats off to Powell for playing a decent game, but long story short South Doyle will not win many without a quarterback who can hand the ball off and throw the ball.

The quaterback I seen at the game last night was not Jason Conley. But I did see Jason conley playing DE. What is the deal I watched him play quaterback last year and I must say he has been the best QB I have seen since I left. I was excited about everything I have been reading about him in the paper and all the prep books. Last year he was about the only running game they had at times and threw the ball better than your average QB. Do not get me wrong they were not great last year but they were some what ballanced. From what I seen last night you can not tell me this kid beat Conley out. Is he in the dog house with Duncan. I did notice several players on defense that played there butts off #s 54 , 12, 58 , 43, 31. Except for #8 can not say to much for the DBs. They were on the field the entire game. If anyone can tell me whats going on at the QB spot please let me know.

THAT'S A VERY GOOD QUESTION THAT EVERYONE,AND I MEAN EVERYONE IS ASKING.

JASON DID HAVE A MEDICAL ISSUE THAT CAUSED HIM TO BE AN OBSERVER THE FIRST FEW DAYS OF PRACTICE,(WHEN THEY WERE IN SHORTS AND HELMETS),BUT HE WAS CLEARED AND READY WHEN THE PADS WERE PUT ON.

AGAIN,EVERYONE IS ASKING THE SAME QUESTION.

    • So much talk about an investigation about student record manipulation and then everything has went silent. Has anyone heard how the investigation is going?
    • Basically what you're saying is schools can basically bully students around and get away with it because they are protected. I agree to a certain extent but when schools decisions to keep knuckleheads on staff starts costing kids careers and a college education there is a problem. Our school system last week had a teacher supposedly push a kid and the parents went to the law and the teacher is suspended. So I wouldn't say that they can just do what they want without liability. This case don't pass the smell test because the coach had already been fired before and she got fired after a year on the job. Sounds like the student was right in this case on the outside looking in because the coach gets fired after one year. How many coaches get fired after one year?? Not many.
    • Problem with DB football goes beyond coaching. Like Waco said. Thr band is the main focus of their community and school. They have the resources to be a championship level team. Guarantee Ballard or Witten could have them nationally relevant at some point but everyone down to peewee would have to buy in and at DB we all know that would never happen.
    • I know the RB from OR he’s fast and has good hands. Is good on special teams also. Didn’t want to play defense over to the Ridge.
