Lewis vs Fairview

Stat I really appreciate your mostly positive attitude toward everything Black and Gold, I really do. The top four running backs are averaging 4.56, 5.25, 2.88 and 5.05 yards per carry (this is Joes’ stats). Now which of those running backs do you think needs more carries? I will tell you this; the one with “more speed” is the one averaging 2.88 yards per carry. I must say that at first I too was not in favor of the switch at QB until I got to see the young Soph. run the offense. When you play QB you have to have patience as the play develops and he has done a wonderful job with that important aspect of the game. And I only wish that you were correct about “The defense has stood up well all this year”. If we could have gotten a few key stops here and there who know what could have happened. I do believe that we can get those stops and put it all together and win some games (even in the playoffs).

As far as the crowd at last week’s game I agree that it was bad and I admit that we are spoiled and not use to losing. I can tell you this, many years ago when we were in our early stages of turning our program around we brought MUCH more of a crowd to away game than the 200 that Giles brought Friday night. I attended the Fairview game at Giles and was a bit surprised with the lack of attendance on the home side (I would guess 6 or 700). Not trying to start a fight, just stating the obvious.

I couldn't help jumping in on this.

Back 1...113/445 3.94 (From line of scrimmage, Not counting yds on fake punt)

Back 2...64/323 5.04

Back 3...41/282 2.82 (you actually have it more..but either is below 3

Fullback...110/594 5.4

From your previous post and this one it is clear you have your favorites. I looked back at some of your papers......seen back 3 getting 1, 2 or 3 carries per game. The best I could find for more than 3 carries was when you guys played Hickman...he had 8/53...which isn't to bad.....and I seen that myself, I was at the game, he got yds out of nothing. Logic would tell me if you have a fast, strong good athlete and .....one only getting the ball 1-3 times a game that could be a problem.....and it would tell me you have some blocking issues.

You and stat can go back to your discussion. Can tell you have a problem with anyone questioning your opinion. You stated earlier that the one back "is the best by far". I would think I would want ALL my best athletes handling the ball.

Fairview has a better record than Lewis. Lewis is banged up and has lost some key players.....one a linebacker that was something special.....the other outside Linebacker/fullback and a corner/kicker. Fairview is probably in better shape than lewis. It should be a good game......I think both schools are glad they are done with the big schools and can get back to their normal routine. Hope the weather clears out fast. How does Fairview field drain?

not so great...we've had a couple of mud bowls so far this year but the weather definatly affects us because we like to throw the ball...we've got some great receivers...but running the ball has been our trouble this year which starts with the o-line.........partly my fault.............but i think lewis has another thing comming tomorow night.

I understand the frustration factor sometimes 926. I also was too harsh on my reply. :D

I also agree with you ddaddy about the crowd at the Fairview game. It was on a Saturday night and there were too many other events already going on that people attended. With that being said nobody is more disappointed with the ticket sales at the Brickyard than myself. We seem to have the opposite problem than Lewis. We were so bad for so long most people forgot there was even a football game played on Friday nights in Pulaski. By the end of 06 we had good crowds at the game. 07 & 08 crowds were not much better with the make-shift seating. 09 we have a new park and RAIN. Hopefully Friday night and into the play-offs we will pack the house. We'll see. :?:

I stand by my pick. If LC controls the ball and shortens the game they win by 7. :roflol:

Hey stat,

What's your ideal LC backfield? You always talk about the flip flopping of the backfield but from what I can see the last several weeks has been the same. I'm just curious as to which one you think LC should go with?

The one they started the season with...and gave up on after the first game. Seemed like you would have more options......diffently more speed, and (not putting down the present QB) with the other as QB, there is more of a threat from that position. Don't claim to be a Football Guru, but it just seemed to me (rest of the stat crew also) that the offense would be much tougher to defend against, and from what I hear, it would also put the fastest player on the team in the backfield. That being said.....this is the hardest playing bunch I have seen at Lewis in ages. This squad has takent the best of so many teams this year, and yet play as hard......not let me correct that, harder each game. This is a very special bunch in my opinion. I just wish the fans would support them like they have in the past. I guess winning easy games spoiled them. This is ONE TOUGH BUNCH playing now. I believe next year they will be able to have a better record..mainly because so many they have faced this year is loaded, and will lose alot.

Well the offense didn't seem to be too tough to defend against in that one game that your prefferred backfield started in. For most of the season we were Mt. Pleasant's only win of the season. That's all I'll say about that. Aren't you kin to the "fastest kid on the team?" That may be total speculation but thats just what I have heard from other CoachTers.

You asked for an opinion.......I gave it, I guess it don't agree with yours. FYI, there are 5 of us that use this......."stat pack". 1 is kin, the others are fans and support Lewis strongly. You attitude towards someone stating an opinion about speed..is childish. As an observer, I would think that would be a plus...but I guess you have a different one......so be it. The coaches play who they want and that is that. instead of being attacked for answering a question , you might want to give your opinion and the whys and why nots to it. As far as saying about the player with speed......sorry I dragged him to it. It seems some have a problem with him or questioning the coaches.....so be it. But back to the game......This one could be like the one they had back in 06 an 8-7 game. From what I read both teams defenses seem to be their strengths.....I guess it will depend on whos offense can break out first.

I have no beef with you having questions about coaching decisions, that is your right. I'm just saying the Mt. Pleasant game our offense was out of sync all night to a pretty bad Tigers squad. I was just giving my opinion on that particular backfield as well - that's what you asked for. And for the record, I have no problem with the kid with speed - and he does have speed no doubt - from what I know about him he is a top notch kid. I was just clarifying whether or not you were kin to him that way people who read this board would take that into account before considering your opinions on the team. But, since you are not kin to him, then that obviously has no bearing and your opinion is as valid as any. No harm no foul stat.

Maybe I came off to strong......one of the stat pack called me after reading this and asked me if I got up on the wrong side of the bed. If so......didn't mean to. But you come on here.....(not you) but so many take shots at these kids and the program you start getting your guard up. The MTP game was a mess .....no doubt. I just thought if we kept that together and some strong coaching they might have been able to develope it. This is not calling out the Soph. QB, for a soph. he is doing great. Just thought with some other options (threats) might have helped. We all have opinions......mine..not the other members of the pack, I always thought at the beginning of the year the LB.....number 27 and 8 inside and 65 and 55 outside with 12 and 22 corners would have be a great one, but again my opinion. Course with losing 27 (single game changing player..one of the best I have seen in a long time) it changed everything. I still think this bunch has played harder and given more than most teams in the past......they haven't had a game, or a play that they could relax on, everyone meant something. If this young bunch of players (MY opinion) played the same schedule as the past, they would have been just as successful as any of them. All the injuries this team has substained and still fighting every game all the way...(except for one half..page) I would say Lewis should be proud of these players. BTW, I still haven't gotten over the MTP game.......the flags and that last drive...still kills me when I think of it. I think if this group now played the schedule at the beginning.....the record would be reversed. I help they still have some effort in the tank like they showed from the last game........these next 2 games are as big as any.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
