Sunbright @ Wartburg

I just want to know who declared the puppies #10 defense and #1 pass defense? I heard some Onida people saying they had #1 pass defense and the #1 defense. We threw the ball and ran the ball on the puppies all night long. The puppy defense was pityful.

The DOGS Defence caused 4 or 5 turnovers & gave up 8 points & you say they are pityful. What does that say about your tigers,

it is pretty simple. dungbright can say whatever they want to, they can say they had more yards, or whatever they are saying. the only thing that matters that you were beat. wartburg outscored dungbright. the defense played better than dungbrights offense, and wartburgs offense played better than dungbrights defense. plan and simple. dungbright was held to only 8 points. wartburg scored 15 points. what else matters wartburg wins dungbright loses. dungbright can make any excuses they want, they lost, thats the end of it.

I honestly wish that Wartburg had made the playoffs. I still believe that at this juncture, with the new system, more wins mean a lot. I used to criticize teams that scheduled easier opponents, but now I think it makes sense. There's probably several teams across the state who'll make the playoffs based on overall record. Wartburg's coach made a statement at the start of the season, "I don't want an easy schedule." But looking back now; were the Midway and Rockwood losses worth it? Sure, both of those were winnable games, I guess, but after years of HAVING to play tougher teams, why not schedule down a little bit and give yourself a little better chance of making the post season? But anyway, I want to comment on Wartburg's middle linebacker- that kid is the REAL DEAL!! I hope he keeps working and plays college ball and gets out of that sleepy little town-he certainly has the potential!!

SCW86,

I just don't think that an easy schedule is the best. The Wartburg team wouldn't have beat Sunbright if they hadn't played tough opponents like rockwood. I just don't like the way this new system rewards teams for playing bad teams out of district. The system needs to be worked out a little bit.

I think that wartburg needs to look at their system of play a little. Much is made of their spread attack but from what I have seen their strength is on defense. They sould look for a way to compliment the D by running the ball better.

Sunbright is 5-5 so there that is a major success. I wish them luck in the playoffs.

Ole Tiger you just opened your mouth & inserted your foot let us compare!

Sunbright schedule, Im not including the last 3 games cause those were the only tough teams you played & well you lost them all.

Sunbright North Greene (0-9) W 38 18 A A

Sunbright Whitwell (4-5) L 28 46 A A

Sunbright Coalfield (2-7) L 12 33 A A

Sunbright Jellico (2-7) W 38 20 A A

Sunbright Red Boiling Springs (2-7) W 28 21 A A

Sunbright Kings Academy (6-3) W 34 28 A A

Sunbright Oakdale (0-9) W 26 6 A A

1st 7 opponents combined record 16-47 haha, & the 2 teams that drilled you are a combined 6-12 haha. Then we shouldnt even count Kings Academy since they dont even participate in the TSSAA because they are so weak.

Now a look at Wartburg, I didnt include Oneida, OS or the game against you guys just like I did on your schedule.

Wartburg Central Monterey (5-4) L 12 20 A A

Wartburg Central Midway (2-7) L 0 14 A A

Wartburg Central Harriman (6-3) L 20 27 A A

Wartburg Central Oakdale (0-9) W 20 0 A A

Wartburg Central Coalfield (2-7) W 32 6 A A

Wartburg Central Rockwood (7-2) L 0 14 A A

Wartburg Central Jellico (2-7) W 16 0 A A

Wartburgs 7 opponents 24-39. I would say that is a tougher schedule than yours. Everyone on our schedule plays in the TSSAA & Midway is normally a good team so Wartburg didnt try to dodge anyone. Why didnt Sunbright play any Roane Co. schools? Oh cause Stephens is a coward. I know for a fact that Midway begged him to play.

So to answer your question as to how we can make our schedule any easier, answer....we could play your schedule!!

We all know that sometimes the best team doesn't always win and that was the case last night it seems. I also heard that Oneida has the No. 1 pass defense in District 4-A, but I could see where Wartburg's is better since most teams just run on them while most teams have to throw against Oneida since they are behind.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
