Freshman Talent

William Blount has a freshman, last name Payne. She hits in the #2 spot and plays third base on Varsity. She is hitting close to .500 and is second on the team in hitting. I have seen her eat up some shots at third that an upper classman couldnt stop. She is a very talented lady for her age.

I bet her mom or dad keeps the score book.

NOt sure about all that but she is a big reason why the Lady Govs are atop district 4-AAA.

8-AA Smith County has several freshman that have started this year, team is currently 13-13 with wins over Upperman, McGavock, and Cookeville. They finished fifth in the Duff tournament at Cookeville and lost to eventual tournament champion Kingsport Dobyns Bennett 5-2. Pitcher Mary Lynn Bush has 3 varsity home runs and pitched a no hitter in a home loss :roflol: to Livingston 2-0. Left fielder Bree Mullinax has a .500 on base percentage and has thrown out several runners from the outfield this year.

Catcher Kelsey Edens had a game winning hit in the bottom of the eighth against Westmoreland and Hailey Hendry had the winning hit in the bottom of the seventh against Upperman. They have another catcher, Lexi Wilkerson that has taken over the starting spot as of late. Madison Dillon also plays first base for the varsity.

    • And that needs to go, Charter ,private ,magnet, city and any school that operates differently than pure public schools should be separated. What really needs to be done is address urban and rural. About all the usual powers have access to several kids from other schools period.
    • Sad deal. Hate it. So the coach that kicked her off is now fired??
    • Slightly off topic from a gender standpoint but just observed several boys volleyball games in the Knoxville area for a short spring season. The guys seemed to have a great time. There were several club players on each team but several football, basketball and tennis players involved. Knoxville Catholic, Maryville, Heritage, Knoxville West maybe William Blount had teams. Thanks to Coach Brent Carter from Knoxville Catholic/K2 for getting it together. I’m sure the coaches involved got several laughs trying to coach guys that really had no idea what they were talking about but pretty athletic and competitive. Catholic’s best basketball player told the coach he had played a lot of 2:3 and 1:3:1 but never a 3:3 LOL Maybe it will catch on with some more schools next year.
