I understand what some people are saying. I think 90% of the head coaches in the state of Tennessee could win state championships at Alcoa the last 6 years and in the future. That I will not argue. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Having said that, unless my memory is failing me, Riverdale was not the powerhouse until about 1990. Enter Gary Rankin and staff. However, I don't know if Murfreesboro was zoned at the time or not, but that was before siegel and Blackman were built for sure, which did allow for a lot of exceptionally gifted athletes in the 'boro to play football for the Warriors. Again, not arguing that point either. I never played for Rankin, but I do know him well and I can tell you that the talent he has coached is enough to make a lot of coaches sick, but I can tell you that has nothing to do with the fact that he is still one of the best football coaches out there, and on top of that, he always surrounds himself with a very capable staff.

I would also like to add a couple of things about Coach Rankin if I may! No doubt Riverdale and Alcoa have gifted athletes! As a HC Coach Rankin brings several other elements that have made him sucessful. Discipline, knowing how to use and where to play these gifted athletes and the one other important element is the strength and conditioning and the organization of Coach Rankin. He is truely one of a kind. :roflol: I have seen coaches who have had gifted athletes on their teams and not know how to utilize them if their life depended on it!

Very true statements. A good example to this.........Alcoa's 1999 team.

I do not agree with this. 90% is a crazy #. Huntingdon had a pretty good lead on Alcoa in the 2004 title game and they had the football in the 3rd quarter. Reid had to have done something right to get those kids off of the mat and back into the game that night. In 2005 yes Alcoa was just way too strong for Goodpasture. They could have hung 80 on them that night the way things were rolling at one point. In 2006 & 2007 though Goodpasture was a very good football team. Although the score wouldn't indicate it Alcoa did have to work hard for those wins. I believe Goodpasture did defeat David Lipscomb both of those seasons and both of those years David Lipscomb was in the 3A title game against Fulton if memory serves me correctly. 2008 & 2009 Milan was a very talented football team. Both of those Milan teams were very good defensively and on offense they were physical. Again Alcoa had to work for wins in both of those games.

Good coaches could win state titles at Alcoa yes but 90% is an insane number :roflol:

Scaldeddog17 I have to agree with you on the 90%. That in my opinion should be about maybe 20% or less! :thumb:

I guess Rankin must be real flattered to have all this discussion about him. I can just hear him saying "let the record speak for itself". Next subject please............-_-

Coach Rankin doesnt waste his time reading Coach T threads!

It is true that he doesn't waste his time reading CoachT - he is too busy preparing his team to make his critics look like a fool
