Easy road. Not having to play East, Wh. Station, Houston, Melrose, Hamilton, Germantown......just St. Agnes, St. Marys, ECS Great schedule!

I will give Briarcrest some credit. They usually play one of the toughest schedules in the state since they always play in big out of town tournaments like the Nike Tournament of Champions 2 or 3 years ago. They also play teams like White Station and Ridgeway and Houston during the school year. It doesn't count in the district, but at least they play them. Trust me, they always have THE TOUGHEST non-conference schedule of the teams in Memphis while some of the others play extremely weak non-conference games just to pad their stats and records (beating teams by 80 and 90 points). They can't help who they have to play, but ECS is no slouch. Besides, in my opinion, any D-2 school statewide has an easier road, not just them. Only thing that puts Briarcrest ahead of the rest is that they play tougher teams than the other D-2 schools which can account for their lofty national rankings for several years.

You are right about the regular season. I was referring to the district. Didn't Houston beat Briarcrest last year? I thought I remember reading that in the C.A.

Sorry for the missing intentions.

I think you're right...Houston did beat Briarcrest, in Briarcrest's own tournament. I actually thought about that when I wrote my previous post. They're district is really weak though...you're absolutely right on that one. I guess in a way, it all balances out because a lot of the teams in 16AAA play VERY WEAK non-conference schedules. But I guess when the reality hits you that any team on any night in that district can beat you, and that if you play a strong pre-district schedule and have to battle every night for the district to end up at MAYBE even (say 15-15), I can see the point. Craigmont was 9-0 last season before the district started. After that, they lost 5 straight before eventually beating some of the same teams that beat them at the end of the regular season and in the district tournament.

There is an unconfirmed rumor flying wildly through Division II teams in Memphis. I can neither confirm this or deny it, and I'm hoping someone else out there can. Supposedly, Jada Mincy quit Briarcrest Basketball this year, leaving Head Coach Hugh Freeze somewhat out in the freezing cold. If you can support this rumor, please explain it to me. I just can't believe it until I see her in the stands during a Briarcrest game.

    • Best-of-three sectional series vs East Robertson at home starting Wednesday.  They put us out last year at this point.  Go Pirates!!
    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.
    • Richland plays at McKenzie on Wed.  Should be a good series.  Does Richland have good pitching?
    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
