Cannon County stuns Upperman in OT...

Sorry to intrude. Just wanted to get log man's valued opion. Bottom line four good teams should be two very good games. Match-ups predicted, sites reversed.

 

So how deep do Upperman and Cannon go? Don't know alot about the two except they are very highly regarded.

 

CC plays an up tempo game with full court press defense if it is effective. They routinely use 2-3 subs during the game rotating players to keep them fresh.

 

MC is up tempo and have some height. Go about 4 deep without losing a lot. They are quick and will press the whole game as well. Trust me they will not wear down.

A very motivated Upperman team wins this game by double digits no doubt..... Depth isnt very good with only two seniors but the starting 5 and one off the bench play very good.

I would guess 6-4 Central if they played 10x. Reason being, the last 2 games, Polk knows they can not only play with them, but also beat them. Don't know much about Upperman, other than what I saw last yr when they played @ Central in the Sub-State, one of the best games I have ever seen btw. If they are anywhere near that good, it should be a great game.

 

Fair enough jcub50- But do you not think that it took a good Polk game and poor MC for the win. I will have to say though, it is what Polk is doing to make MC play poor. I do not feel however that for Polk this win come at a good time. I am wanting to say Upperman is a better team than Cannon overall. Can't say for sure cause all teams at this point are good.

 

I would love to hear some Upperman or Cannon oponions.

Upperman had to have somewhat of a letdown after the emotional win over LA. Taking nothing away from the Cannon Co. team, IMO, Upperman is without a doubt the better team. Their defense can be as good as it gets. Biggest weakness that I can see is not staying with their strength. They can put the ball in the hole, but sometimes instead of trying to score, will play to keep from losing rather than playing to win in a tight game.

Cannon County does not match up well with Upperman's great quickness and they don't have a tall girl like Upperman does. I'm not sure since I was not at the game but I think CC may have given up trying to play man-to-man defense against Upperman and played zone defense instead with much better results. Anyone have any insight into McMinn's strengths and weaknesses?

 

If this is close to the same type team that Upperman had last year (Central and Upperman looked like a mirror of each other), and you say that Cannon does not have a tall girl or match up with quickness- this could be a good matchup for McMinn Central. Polk is in similar situation. Seems size against MC in earlier matchups made the difference. It'll be interesting. I would like to see Polk win but I think that the home towns will be upset after Sat. Just opinion.

If I'm right, I believe Upperman has four seniors this year. They start three seniors, a junior, and a sophomore if I remember correctly.

I'm not saying that Cannon isn't quick. It's just that Upperman has exceptional quickness. Although Cannon doesn't have a really tall girl they are not small.

I just had to come in here and make sure that I made it very clear that I was not blaming referees for the Upperman loss the other night. I started thinking about it last night and thought "geez GatorBill (cause thats what I go by back home is GatorBill)....anyways I said "Geez GatorBill, you sounded like a whining little girl. And not only that, you sounded like a whining little girl who needs to make excuses for losing"

 

Well, let's clear something up. I never need to make excuses for losing. I may sound like a whining little girl sometimes, but that is ok. As long as Im not making excuses.

 

 

(that being said, the blocking call against the Roberts kid under the Cannon Co Basket and then the out of bounds play where the cannon county girls were literally laying on the dyer kid and whoever it was stacked up with her...pure crap. If the ref thinks it is bad enough to come over and give you a speaking to about it, then it is bad enough for the whistle to blow. You cant swallow the whistle just because of the lack of time on the clock. Not making a call changes the game just as much as making a call does)

 

anyways, Had 2 shots to win it. And Didnt. Ball dont lie.

aw crap. I forgot to put THAT disclaimer in this post also. I had it in several other posts, I think that the refs played no favorites and were equal to both sides. Just sometimes the timing of calls sucks.

 

I talked with 3 different Cannon Co fans on the way out who all said the same thing "If you had gotten that last basket we would be complaining about the refs"

 

SO, as I said in an earlier post, it just sucks that the refs have to even be mentioned. No matter who lost this game, both sides had legitimate complaints about them.

 

Back to Basketball. I hate talking about refs. As you say, I will leave that to you LA fans!!
