Batter's Boxes?? - Arlington at NorthSide

I went to the NS / Arlington game tonight, and guess what? No Batter's Boxes...I'm not talking about them being worn down in the 7th....I was there before the first pitch, and there were not any....I thought it was a rule you had to at least start a game with boxes....guess those rules don't apply for NorthSide, not that anything could have helped them tonight....season over.

We haven't put down boxes for the 3 years that I have been there. So, if there is a rule about it, it probably would have been addressed by now.

TSSAA does require a batters box some umps just allow you to play without it. Umpires have the right to delay the game until the home team paints a box and lines. Sometimes it is just not enforce this.

Having looked thru the TSSAA baseball bylaws and guidelines there is no reference to the requirement of batter boxes. Most umps will never require them if not there. I would bet most umps could not tell you the dimension of a batters box.

IMO as an interested bystander, don't matter if a batter's box is required, manditory whatever - from what I saw on the clip of the hit the DC player had to "win the game", it was a pitiful call and TSSAA and the umpire should apologize to DC for the biggest ripoff I've seen in high school baseball in a while. It should have been so obvious and no doubt for that call to have been made and the film don't lie. Wonder what motive the ump could have had for such a bogus call? Maybe he hated to see Cord's season end?

wow I've watched a lot of baseball and never once have I seen a batter's box decide the outcome of a game. How do you score that?

NFHS rules:1-2-5,2-7-2,7-3-1,7-3-2,7-3-3

just for clarification, yes, a batter's box SHOULD be in place, umpires can have home team put down if not already in place, however, once you begin the game it is too late to fuss, argue, protest(TSSAA does not allow protests however).

I have 'umped' for 30 yrs!! I always have the home team put them down if not already in place.

batter's box=6'x4'...didnt even have to look it up..
