  1. I too am proud of the JCS eagles - they showed a lot of heart and character. The boys were ready to play and had been prepared well - showed a lot of confidence and desire. Coach Cooper does a good job with his baseball program and should be proud. Congrats to Webb who obviously was the best this year.
  2. IMO as an interested bystander, don't matter if a batter's box is required, manditory whatever - from what I saw on the clip of the hit the DC player had to "win the game", it was a pitiful call and TSSAA and the umpire should apologize to DC for the biggest ripoff I've seen in high school baseball in a while. It should have been so obvious and no doubt for that call to have been made and the film don't lie. Wonder what motive the ump could have had for such a bogus call? Maybe he hated to see Cord's season end?
  3. My son was at a Vanderbilt camp a few years ago and Coach Corbin won my heart when he had all the guys go to center field and gave them a 20 minute speech on honoring the American Flag, the soldiers who fight to protect it and our freedoms and showing respect during the National Anthem. It ain't always about winning or losing the game. What a great lesson - will always remember that. Thanks to the Brown family and our prayers are with you.
  4. I thought it especially classy when 2 of TCA's players entertained the USJ stands by pointing to their crotches and raising their arms as to get the USJ fans to respond. I'm sure that there was a lot of mouthing, etc. , but the spark that started the fight was definitely the cheap hit on USJ #83 by TCA #60 (same player making gestures to the USJ crowd earlier) after the onsides kick had been recovered and downed. USJ should not have responded but when you see one of your own on the other end of a cheap shot I'm sure it's hard not to retaliate. I personally feel that maybe 1 player from each team deserves suspension.
  5. Hey, I was just defending Morton from this asinine post. Nobody said he was Bartlett's only or even best player. You questioned where us people get the info that he is a stud and I told you - seen him play since he was 7 or 8 years old. Didn't say he was a great hitter, but when your 6' whatever he is and on the mound and throwing 90 mph (give or take a few mph) anywhere close to the strike zone in high school as a junior and with me at the plate, I'm thinking stud!! Also, a tough catcher. Agree with another post that bet he plays at the next level. Again, not taking away from Bartlett as a team (love to watch Coach Clark) and hope they do well - just disagree with your opinion of Morton
  6. And you wouldn't want him on your high school team? I don't have a dog in this hunt but I have watched this guy play, usually from the opposite side of the field, since he was 7 or 8 yrs old and I would definitely say he has "studly" abilities. He has always been on teams that play at the highest level and has fared well, so fresh out of JV or not he has the ability to be great. Good luck to C'ville and Bartlett this year.
  7. I'll go out on a limb and predict USJ will sqeak out a few wins this year??? Looks like they're into pain judging from their schedule. Should be a fun year
  8. What is Morton topping out at on the mound, about 81 or 82 ? haha Who are the other top pitchers?
  9. Trenton Peabody--CLASSY! Football team fought hard, good fans, great band/halftime show (best drum major I've ever seen - way to go Annie) and by far the best football announcer. A lot of school pride shown. Congratulations on having a fine school. BTW, cool to see the players, cheerleaders and ? others join the band at halftime.
  10. A lot of good players in 8AA this year, but I think pound for pound Dusty Bright plays as hard and with as much heart as anyone. He doesn't always "make the front page" but week after week he's out there giving 110% and getting the job done. He has several roles on the team - DB, receiver, kick-off/punt returns, and general "madman" - and plays them all well. Gets my vote for all-region.
  11. I don't think that the 3 USJ teams prior to this year were that bad - they had good talent. I think there were some bad decisions made that kept USJ's offense so "one dimensional" that it was difficult to win. Now that they have more versatility on offense they are able to once again be successful. As a result of those 3 "bad years", USJ decided based mainly on football to go D-2. I think a lot of people are questioning this decision and not only for football. At any rate good to see USJ football enjoying success again and the future looks bright, but maybe not quite as exciting and challenging as 2a. BTW, good ballgame Friday night - there was a lot of heart shown by both teams. At one point I thought Chandler was trying to break Martindale's leg, but then realized he was just trying to help out with a leg cramp!
  12. Oh you are cruel Gocart! Could very well be wet which would "dampen" things a bit for both offenses. Haven't seen Cody play but I know he is talented. Even if it is wet, Overbey and his receivers will do fine. The O line has really stepped up this year and with good protection Jake can make it happen. We now have mobility at the QB position and that has opened a lot of doors that have not been there the last couple of years. Despite what some think, USJ does have a running game and might even use it if need be. Are both teams healthy? Should be a great night!
  13. Who are some of the Northside linemen? Heard Cox is a beast. What about Franks?
  14. Best I remember they didn't try to run against Milan(1 attempt)-why should they when they had over 400 yards passing and scored 35 points!! No doubt with Dietz and Sauls USJ can run if they have to, they just haven't had to yet
  15. Husker, I've read several of your posts lately and in the ones that are even halfway understandable I've yet to detect anything that resembles an intelligent thought. I don't have to wait for you to run with a flag, I'm booing you now!
  16. Come on now, give credit where credit is due - USJ did have a rushing yard vs. Milan! For JCS to have a chance in this one they had better come with an intense defense up front to stop the run (not losing site of the fact that the QB can run and throw) and a mixed attack on offense favoring the air attack. Don't think Johnson will have much luck through the line and it will be tough to get around the ends. Good luck and hope for a good close game.
  17. Honest answer - do you think that in West Tenn an individual has ever moved into a certain public school zone for the sole purpose of playing his/her chosen sport at that chosen school. If you do, is this fair and is it any different than private schools not having to adhere to zoning laws? Should that situation not be "equalized" with the 1.8? If you don't, then end of discussion I guess. Not trying to turn into a pub/priv discussion, but with USJ going DII next year there are definitely mixed feelings especially after watching such a great game with Milan. I think DII is more fair and "safer" for USJ and JCS in the long run but I'm afraid the competition will be weaker and probably make for less exciting and meaningful memories.
  18. Enlighten us all BDD, what exactly is the reason the multiplier is in place? If you can clarify this you would have done something that no one else (including Ronnie Carter and the TSSAA) could. You know it's a shame USJ and JCS had to decide to make that move, cause I really think the next few years could see Milan coming in 2nd or 3rd in the region. USJ has a very young team and gave the bulldogs all they wanted this year. BTW BDD, I'm sure that just like me, all of USJ is just waiting anxiously for your respect. We'll probably just crumble without it.
  19. Great game both teams. Coaches both had good nights making good decisions and playing smart football. High scoring, exciting game. No doubt Milan has a good team with several different areas of strength. It is rather amusing though to hear Milan reasoning what the outcome would have been IF all their players would have been healthy. I wish USJ had over 650 students to choose a football team from like Milan does, instead of the less than 400 they have. It is really amazing to me that these guys from USJ are even competing with schools like Milan, much less going toe to toe with them. Maybe Milan will get to be "100%" next time - USJ players will still be going both ways and holding their own.
  20. You know, it's easy for fans to get on here and sound all confident and secure about their team's certain victories and all, but I'll guarantee you that Coach Morris and his team are working harder this week than they have in a long time to get ready for USJ. I think (as you probably do) that there is a real good chance for a major upset in this game. All it will take in this one is for one team to come out a little too flat or a little too nervous and it could turn ugly quick.
  21. I thought the Razors represented themselves well this summer when we played them. They had some young players but showed a lot of heart. Coaches and players showed class. I heard that the head coach played baseball in the old now defunct handicapped women's baseball league with the Saginaw One Armed Bandits?? (just kidding yankee)
  22. According to reliable sources, like our coach, one umpire told him it was their coach's decision to "save the field" for the next day. Our opinion - the game could/should have easily gone another 1/2 inning. Their opinion - they saved lives that night by tarping the field and halting play. I guess it's just a matter of opinion? Like they say it was just a tournament game and didn't really mean much, but some think it was a blatant attempt to avoid a loss.
  23. Oh yeah - biggern' Dallas. Gant was smokin them so they just shut her down. Oh wait, sorry, there I go whining again. Good luck and put it to 'em Bartlett
