Meigs Co. Offense

The dead period just started Monday, so this is the first full week of the dead period. Before that, teams could lift weights and condition as long as its open to other sports also. If during the conditioning, the kids are running routes and trying to get ahead on this new offense, then great! They can even get together on their own over the dead period. (which I hope they are) I saw the kids throwing the ball around last week, and it did look good, "no balls on the ground". Before we jump to rules violations though, let's know the situation, the time period (dead period just started), and the rules.

Better go back and read the rules. Football can lift and condition but cannot do anything football specific; like run pass routes, play with footballs, ect. Many teams try to get around this with tennis balls or they ignore the rules. If coach was there and routes, footballs were thrown it is a rules violation.

Read to much into things that dont concern you much ?

It would be nice to hear about some of the positive things going on at Meigs County. At least they have an easy schedule in 2010. District 5 is pretty balanced after Polk County. The Tigers play York, Cumberland County, Pigeon Forge, Greenback out of the region. Will they be in the shot-gun with one or two backs?

This will be a big change from Meigs offensive play of the past. When the Roberts kid played QB, he had some great skills that made everyone around him better. In the 90's, it probably would not have mattered what offense they ran because they were big and physical up front plus were blessed with speed, size and ability at almost all the skill positions. When Jones was at CC, he had great skilled players and lots of speed. I think the challenge will be getting the scheme to match the players. Will be an interesting season in Decatur.

After watching the first practice yesterday for passing league, its going to be a uphill climb for sure.
