Tullahoma vs Riverdale 8/10

Recommended Posts

well the cats defense looked pretty good on all except for one drive they gave up a few cutbacks. the pass defense looked good and they held bga at the line well also. the offense struggled a bit at first with it being their 3rd day in pads but about midway through the scrimmage they got rolling and hit some big plays. one running the ball and a few long passes. the cats scored twice and should have once more if wasnt for a dropped td and bga scored once with a short run on a long drive by them

The big question this year for Tullahoma was their defense. Considering the offense had most of their starters back from last year they are expected to have a good year. Tullahomas D has proven itself in the two scrimmages. They have been playing very well. With a veteran offence capable of putting together a long drive and some big plays, and a defense that is looking very sharp in the preseason, Tullahoma should be competitors this year to say the least. Their real test will be Tuesday against a very strong Riverdale team. But you never really know untill friday night.

After playing the starters for three full quarters Friday night in Pulaski, it is unlikely the coaches will allow them to play that long Tuesday night against Riverdale.

Instead you might see them play into the second quarter before substitutions begin. One thing limiting substitutions will be the significant number of players that are either injured or sick. That number is changing daily.

Tullahoma did look pretty good against Giles Co., especially on defense, but keep in mind this is not the Giles County team of a year ago. The Bobcats have some good players and will win some games, but its a good bet they won't make a return trip to Cookeville.

I don't think we can judge much from what we see against Riverdale, unless the Warriors just manhandle the Wildcats like Oakland did in the 2009 Fan Feast, which was held at Moore County. What the Patriots did to the 'Cats last year in the final scrimmage seemed to send Tullahoma reeling and they didn't regain their footing until the fourth game when they beat Coffee County.

Expectations are that Riverdale won't dominate like Oakland did, and that Tullahoma will be much more competitive against Blackman in Week 0. All the talk about war or whatever is silly and that post is most likely from a Blackman supporter trying to get his team fired up.

THS needs no billboard material to get motivated for the season opener, as many players return from the team that endured a 52-0 beating last year from Blackman. Wilkins Stadium should be packed and hopefully we will all see a competitive, hard-fought contest with no serious injuries.

First of all Tullahoma whipped our butts in a "scrimmage" game. No doubt. They showed discipline and are well coached. Giles started 9 on offense for the first time Friday night. The Cats do have a long way to go but facing a 53 didn't help them. If this were a regular game I'm pretty sure OC would have showed them what to do about that extra lineman & a different LB set. The defense, with 10 new starters, played well the 1st half even thought they were missing 3 potential starters. Kudos to Tullahoma for being poised and pulling away the 2nd half. It may be a good bet the Cats won't make Cookeville but that noise was heard last year also.

The mark of a good team is having the ability to become a better team each week. I think Giles will fill that mold. :popcorneater:

Tullahoma is gonna be good..but how good is the question. The offence looked good in both games but at times looked like the team of old with the QB over throwing people. Running game needs to get better. The D will be better than people think with an experienced LB core and a good DB unit with a super saftey and realiable cornor...but will for them to beat blackmen they will have to come out and play perfect or it will be a long night. Look for them to lose a close one to blackmen but get things rolling after that and win their district and make a deep playoff run.

Until somebody dethrone them, Columbia is the best team in the district but I believe Tullahoma can beat Lawrence Co and be second, and still have a playoff run even though I don't think it will be that deep of one, history is aganist Tullahoma, only 2 times have they went to the semi's, 1979 and 1987 losing both, grant it they have a rich tradition but i believe it might be a couple more years till they go deep in the playoffs.
