Oakland 20 Ensworth 7

Ensworth is still very inexperienced and depth is an issue. They still have studs, but the fact of the matter is they have problems snapping the ball, the QB play is suspect, and to be honest Oakland is really good. Ensworth only dresses 45 players compared to 80-90 for some of the bigger schools. So they are playing with less players, plus they are only allowed to practice 12 hours per week per school rules. Take nothing away from Oakland, they absolutely dominated the game, and from what I heard they will be making a deep run into the playoffs. However, Ensworth does have some injuries, and it's going to take some time for Ensworth.

If the offense doesn't start clicking soon, it might be time to put Corn in the Wildcat and tell him to make plays.

So the 20 to 25 freshman that dress for homes games did not make the bus ride to M'boro?

You are really looking at a roster of 65 to 70 kids.

what's startling to us all is that despite these small #s, EHS has again this year the greatest # of top players on the midstate watch list, and that's after losing the two elite offensive players from last year's team. It's a remarkable concentration of top talent from such a small pool of players. In the Tennessean's dandy dozen, EHS in just its 3rd or 4th year of varsity football already had more players on that list than MBA and BA combined, two schools with long proud traditions of winning HS football. Ricky and company have obviously done a great job spreading the EHS message around middle TN, because kids from Mt. Pleasant and Murfreesboro were historically not found at Ensworth Middle School. Has Ensworth Middle School similarly broadened its scope of students, or does its population still hail almost exclusively from West Nashville?

They may have on the best schools for college-level talent, but Oakland gave em a lesson in how a team trumps a few exceptional individuals anyday of the week.

They have 2 stud lineman, but I don't see skilled position super stars on EHS football team. Maybe the rb that got hurt preseason was skilled, but that is it.

The Tennessean should stick with Titan and UT coverage like they normally do. They are clueless when it comes to high school football.

That list is skewed to Ensworth because BA is in Williamson county and doesn't warrent Davidson county newspaper press, and MBA has no superstars this year but a bunch of talented kids that the Tennessean does not feel the need to list.

So no, EHS does not have the greatest # of top players this year.

Ensworth Middle school will never be able to supply enough players to EHS.

EHS has to promote their program at other middle schools. Most public high schools have 2 to 3 middle schools to feed their sport programs.

    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
