E.Lit. over CPA

If you don't care a thing about teams you don't play in the regular season, why did you feel the need to even read this topic and post a jab at me in a topic called "E.Lit. over CPA"? Hmmm? You obviously care enough to post in topics of these teams "you could care less" about. Or maybe you do just want to antagonize. Plus, if my posts are so worthless, why do you even read them and feel compelled to respond?

I'm sorry I waste your time posting things you feel compelled to read and comment on. Why don't you and the rest of your "expert" friends just talk among yourselves? At least when I post on the SC topics, I do it to discuss the game, not put you down for an opinion you had years ago.

Touchy...touchy...it was not a jab at you. Sorry if you think so. Where did I say your posts were worthless? I always care how CPA does. I respect that program for many reasons. I do think it could be and uphill battle for CPA to make the playoffs. The change in format hurts. It will be difficult to finish in the top two of that very tough district. It will also be tougher to get a wild card bid.

Glad to be back on topic. I agree that CPA has a tough road this year or in future years to make the playoffs. Don't believe in whining, and the coaches have never complained, but the District they are in, and the way they have to qualify, is frankly, unfair for a school with barely a 2A enrollment. They should not have to play four 4A schools and beat a couple of them (some over a 1,000 enrollment) in the district to qualify. That's all I will ever say again on the situation, but it is a shame, especially for the kids who are beinng penalized for something they have no control over.

I'll be at the SC game Friday. Go, Owls.

Wow...a lot has changed since this thread. SC...will indeed...host East Lit. :D

The EL team I saw beat CPA would, IMO, beat SC. The EL team going into the playoffs probably won't. SC has improved as year has progressed, and EL seems to be fading. SC will see speed they haven't seen yet, though.

Glad CPA made playoffs but, once again, draw Goodpasture who they have a very hard time beating. It's their own fault though for not winning at least one of three games (PC, Lipscomb, and Goodpasture) they lost in the 4th quarter.

CPA's record and seeding is no indicator of the quality of their team and kills them with a draw against Goodpasture in the first round. 4 CPA losses to 2 Top 10 4A schools and 2 Top 10 3A schools. I just looked at Fairview's season, for example (a #3 seed) and I could not believe how weak their opponents were. Frustrating but you just play the hand you are dealt.

Yep...read my previous post. I said in the thread at the time...both would be different teams. It seems that came to fruition. Really...right now...it's all starts anew. Some teams pick it up in the playoffs...some will not show up and pack it in.

How is Genovese? Will he be able to play?

Don't know about Geno. I was at the SC game with you. CPA had little chance to beat GP with him, and no chance, IMO, without him. Backup will be a very good player in a year or two, but is a Freshman. GP is not good place for him to get experience.

Hate to whine, but it kills me to see some of the 3 and 4 seeds playing cupcakes in the first round when I know CPA would beat them if seeded higher. SC may have to beat 2 from District 10 to get to Elite 8 game with GP. Unlike last year, SC is their district's only hope to go far, I believe.

Being on 2 year contracts, you never know how that 2nd season will turnout for teams. So I don't think it is fare to assume they scheduled bunch of cupcakes. We can't predict the future. One year teams will be good, the next year they may suffer a drop off.

Fairview's 2009 Opponents Record- 70-56 (55 winning %)

2009 Non-District Record- 24-11 (69 winning %)

Played a State Champion, 3 2nd round playoff teams, 3 other playoff teams.

Fairview's 2010 Opponents Record- 41-59 (41 winning %)

2010 Non-District Record- 8-22 (27 winning %)

I agree and I am not putting down Fairview. They can't control the strength of their District or how their future scheduled opponents will do. They played a lot of bad and average teams, beat most, and got a #3 seed. That's the way the system works. More power to them.

I understand CPA's frustration. They have difficulty scheduling games and their district consists of student bodies that double or triple their own. Best thing for the TSSAA to do is create 11 5 team districts. Top 2 teams in each district qualifies and is seeded before the other teams who qualify through total wins.

I like your thinking for the most part. There is no ideal solution, but you shouldn't mix 3A and 4A teams in a district, then use total wins as a criteria for the playoffs, unless all 3A teams play the same number of 4A teams. The problem with HS playoffs (and this will never change) is that there is such a wide disparity between teams from bad to average to good. Some games are like an NAIA vs Division 1 college matchup.

The way the playoffs are set up you will have some mercy rule games that would be 100-0 if the clock or winner wasn't merciful. And that is true even without Alcoa in the mix. Even the 2nd place teams in some districts are really not very good compared to a lot of the lower seeds.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
