What is wrong with McNairy Central?

One thing that helps make a good coach seem a "Great Coach" is knowing when to get out. Don't believe that if the Bobcats had state finals type of talent that Coach Browder would have left, his ego wouldn't have allowed anyone else to take that type talent. The biggest difference is what has been stated in previous posts. During the Browder years the best talent was always on the MCHS sideline, sometimes 2 deep. Now it's a new era and the talent pool isn't greater there than it is at Adamsville. Remember Coach Browder never scored a single touchdown during all his wins, he had good and some cases great players that did that for him.

When browder left in 2008 he left sutton and 5 more offensive starters and 6 on defense the difference is like gray he developed his kids thats why gray and browder are successful. the talent level at mcnairy is as good as ever its not the kids.

Talent and dedication goes hand in hand, that makes great players. At Adamsville the past couple of years those kids that starred there are some of the best that have ever played those positions there. Josh Carroll the best defensive player ever. A.J. Damron the best kick returner, and playmaker ever. Melton is one of the top quarterbacks all-time, so the idea that the talent at Adamsville is better is very true. There are other skill people that rank in the top 5 to ever play that position at AHS. The linemen as a group ranks as one of the best ever to play there. At MCHS you can't claim that Sutton is one of the 5 best backs to play there, no reciever is a top 5 candidate. Quarterback??? The Bobcats are just in a down cycle which all schools go through, the programs that are dead and never compete are those that change coaches every 3-4 yrs and MCHS doesn't want to begin to be a revolving door. So be patient and get thru this cycle and support your team.

When comparing the two programs, two things haven't been addressed.

First of all, Adamsville has a coaching staff that genuinely cares about the players and the kids respond to that. I don't think that ever existed at MCHS under Browder-Jones, or if it did, it was well hidden. At MCHS kids wanted to play football-at AHS kids want to play football for the Coaches Gray, Woodmore, Hopper, and Chapman.

Secondly, the coaching staff at AHS is interested in building a successful program--not just having a successful season. Most folks don't know about the Bigger, Faster, Stronger program for elementary students that started about 5 years ago. During the off season, kids in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades spend an hour each day in the AHS afterschool program. The coaches teach them drills, agility, and let them play Bowden ball. Most importantly, the kids get to know the coaches and the coaches get to know the kids. When my son played for AJHS I saw at least one AHS coach at every football game (home and away). You saw them at the Jr. Pro grames. Coach Gray takes players to the elementary school to read to the younger students. How many Jr. high games did Tommy Browder attend? How many kids' names did he know when they walked in the doors of MCHS for the first time?

I think Longtimefan is speaking wisdom when he talks about revolving door coaches. It takes time to build a program. It takes time to build trust. Give Glover some time and some support and see what he can do.

I disagree, now here me out! I think coach gray and his staff are the best around and yes they have developed the kids but there are many things that you cant develope! Having 6 ft 4 in 300 pound lineman and 4-4 speed in the backfield is not something you coach! Now with that said, with that kind of foundation you can build a great program!

If you were at the game ( A'ville VS MCHS) you would have noticed that we just lined up and wooped them, that is not coaching!

Lets start with sutton: number 3 on the single season rushing chart as a freshman with 1658 yards (under browder). QB (kiestler) won the tennessee titans qb camp and the manning academy top qb award. Lineman redmon(some say the best ever to play there) and bunton 6-3 and 6-4 over 275 both started under browder and both are in the upper level of lineman to play at mc according to a former player who played at tennessee. carroll-damron-melton all played against mcnairy browders last year 2008 and the score was 34-12. Speaking with former coaches-players and present the kids loved browder and he helped them in every way possible not flaunting it but quietly going about the business of winning and building character.Maybe you want glover to stay to continue the streak and if he is such a good coach please hire him (4-20 record). Coach Browder will be back at mcnairy in 2011 and maybe that scares some people. He loved adamsville and had fond memories there and spent time with coach gray on building his program and also they are cousins. most of the team and community at mcnairy wants him back and he has won 6 to 8 games with less talent. The deal is this he played the best people and did not play politics like the current coach and alot of people with power did not like that. Alot of the players currently starting were playing under browder 2 yrs ago I will get a list and post it on here. You have your opinion we have ours but records speak for themselves.

Amen jungletiger!!!!!One more thing Ray Reed was on the top 5 receiver list. Coach Browder has been contacted and will sit down after the season and work out terms at McNairy, he should be in place in 2011. He is currently 3-1 at Long Beach, sounds like alot of people across the county are scared of Coach B they know they can beat Glover! Good luck to Coach Gray he has a class program and is a great person and yes he does a great job developing talent! Character and Hard Work is coming back to McNairy!!!!!

If McNairy would lift weights they would not get whooped!! They dont do as much under glover. And dont worry it will not be a revolving door browder will be there another 20 years.

Just to clear something up, the most hopeful people in McNairy County that Browder will return to MCHS is all the other coaches in McNairy Co. Coach Browder is in a teaching position in MS that pays more than teaching and coaching in TN. He presently recieves at least $25,000 from his TN retirement, so the money he would have to recieve to come back and coach the Bobcats would be at least a $70,000 dollar a year job. Since the McNairy County school system isn't about to pay a coach that amount to coach anything then the Bobcats need to keep striving to make improvements. Now if the school board does negotiate a contract with Mr.Browder I bet Coach Lott will be waiting in line next.

I talk to Coach Browder weekly being his first cousin and living in the county it boils down to this: he wants to retire and work half-time and be head football coach at McNairy approx 28,000 half time and retirement 30,000- right at 58,000 a year. He cannot stand the program suffering and must come home and fix the mess. He fixed glover mess after 1988 (1-9) and went (9-1) in 1989. It looks like he must fix the mess again. He is ready to slow down on teaching (half-time) and put his energy into bringing McNairy back to the elite of West-Tennessee. He has been contacted and will conducted negotiations after his season. He wants to coach at least 10 years before he retires all together. He is currently 4-1 at Long Beach. Money is not important at this point seeing the program he built suffer is.
