There is a tremendous shortage of referees (qualified by TSSAA) for todays matches as this day is a critical mass (games vs. coverage) One match as of last night had 1 referee scheduled. Please do not be suprised if there are only 2 referees for competetive matches that would normally have 3 referees. Some colleges were asked to reschedule games today so that the HS games could be covered. And please do not respond to this post with snide or sarcastic comments about the quality of refereeing. No one needs to hear the tired song. Be thankful there are people willing to take the time to do this for the game to the best of their ability.

OR and GPS was a great match. Each goal came off of some really nice soccer. Gotta give props to #9 from GPS, she went upper 90 for their second goal. Also, the keeper there is just phenomenal. She saved a PK, but also made several other huge saves in clutch situations.

Also have to give credit to my girls for facing some adversity against a strong opponent and coming back to get the tie. Best of luck to GPS the rest of the way! Now we're off to Memphis!!!!!

Notre Dame 1- Signal Mountain 0

Notre Dame scored on a PK by Kathryn Healy, after she got fouled in the box. Very physical game, a couple of yellow cards to both teams (one to the SM coach) and a 'Soft Red' for a 2nd yellow on a SM player..my first experience with that call...there was a lot of confusion in the stands afterwards regarding why SM was not down to 10, since the 'soft red' is not that familiar.

Mea culpa Champs, apparently, high school soccer is the only soccer in the world that doesn't abide by the down-a-man red card. I must confess to being one of those parents being vocal. I do try to sit and be quiet but the filter goes bad every now and then.

I thought the refs came in with a plan re: this game and called it fairly and kept things under control. Fun game to watch in a great atmosphere, even with the mouthy (me) parents.

I would concur on #9's goal. That was SICK!

Gotta say, though, the set piece that Oak Ridge ran was clinically done. Beautiful header!

GPS has an outstanding goal keeper/sweeper (she plays REALLY high) who (as Akula said) made an outstanding PK save on a really nice shot.

Fun game to watch! Good luck in Memphis! Say hi to Elvis for me!

    • Actually that young kid was in an offense that loved to throw the ball I believe.    Biggest problem for MC is if the coaching staff can figure out which mouths to feed at the appropriate time.
    • Have you ever been in education (administration) or a head coach? You’re responsible for all aspects of your program. If you were not checking the kids information correctly and left it up to someone else and they mess up. You’re held liable because it’s a failure on supervision, implementation of TSSAA eligibility and your school’s eligibility. Remember the wording in the article for him “CONTRACT NOT RENEWED” coaches are on a year to year contract and don’t sign the contract again until July. Do I believe he still should’ve been let go? Yes because you’re responsible for the total program and should be aware of everything going on. Do I believe he knew about the grade changes? No and that’s because nobody brought his name up until things got really bad and there is no indication with any paperwork showing he did. It’s just word of mouth from a teacher trying to cover herself.
    • TSSAA won't ever issue a death penalty, worst case scenario would be a post-season penalty that makes Clinton ineligible for the playoffs for a year or two (I believe 3 years is the most I have ever seen).  But TSSAA only does that in extremely rare circumstances.
    • I just want to echo that sentiment. Coach Woodmore is a good man and he is going to do things the right way and expect these kids to do things the right way. He will help grow them into fine young men. The wins will follow. I think Bolivar hit a home run.
