Davy Crockett @ Volunteer

This is a big game for both teams. If Crockett wants to have any chance of going to the playoffs they must win this game! Volunteer needs this win to snap a 17 game losing streak and what better game to do it on than a conference homecoming game.

Volunteer will build on last weeks offensive success and begin to throw the ball more and will also catch a few breaks with a couple of Pioneer redzone turnovers. Crockett will score some points but in the end Volunteer will hold off the Pioneers in the final minutes for an upset 29-27 win on homecoming. The goalposts could come down this Friday in Church Hill!

Crockett is the better of these two teams. But, if they do not show up to play they will get beat. I think this is going to be a close one. Volunteer may just break that streak. I remember a few years ago when Crockett beat Volunteer on a miracle play to break a long losing streak. Volunteer may return that favor.

way to go falcons! the boys played hard and deserved it. just to bad they were not coached hard. the coaches played the second half not to loose but they should coach to win! volunteer looked great the 1st half and have the numbers to show for it. then came the 2nd half along with the same old Rider and coaching. Best wishes and a speedy recovery to Devin, bad thing is it may have been prevented but when you open second half and run the same play 8 out of 10 plays you put the players in bad situations. main point is volunteer's boys showed up and played hard for 4 quarters, i just expect the coaching staff to do the same. GO FALCONS!

Just a quick question...

If you were Crocketts coach would you have gone for the long FG at the end of the game or maybe try something and perhaps win the game? Honestly, I think he made the right call by going for the long FG. Great game by both teams!

I really believe Crockette just had some bad luck, What I saw was sloppy play by a Volunteer Team who had some luck on their side. Volunteer could not take care of the blitz, one punt was almost blocked went ten yards and bounced off a crockette player for a turn over. I would have loved to be happy but I could not forget the terrible times, penalties, missed blocks, etc. I think Crockette has some good players, They have been a few mistakes away from a very good team the last several years in basketball and football. I wish them luck, they have had it rough like us.

I was really glad to see Volunteer get the win, but let's face it: they got very lucky.

The real thing that's killed them all year was their secondary not being able to cover receivers. They faced a Crockett team who couldn't throw the ball worth a crap: 0-6 with 3 INTs. That was about the only reason they won. Crockett still shredded them on the ground, but the turnovers and pure luck kept Volunteer on top.

I will say that Harris and the receivers have looked a lot better than I thought they ever would this season. I was really down on them after watching them through the first 2 games, and I still think they've got room for improvement, but they've been getting the job done the past couple of weeks. That's good to see.

    • I have no idea who your team is, but Memphis and other Shelby Co. schools have hardly made a dent, if you’re talking Game 15 appearances. Outside of a couple by Whitehaven, I can’t recall the last team in a final.
    • Robbed you guy at a chance of 3 state championships. You never kne, sond best team in the west my have beat you also, but you sure deserved the chance to play um.
    • Eagleville also loses Brown the catcher, Lamb CF, Mclemore RF (Heck of an athlete) and Drew the 1st baseman. They will be young.
    • Good thing we aren’t in Florida then huh? It would benefit a ton of the smaller schools  that don’t have the pools of kids to choose from! They should start by policing Shelby County like they do the rest of the state! Something has to change though and TSSAA knows that!
    • Correct, you can whimsically be fired in coaching. A coach that has tenure can stay on as a teacher if released from coaching. If you don’t have tenure as a teacher, you can fired without cause. Your last year as a teacher before tenure is earned you can be fired, but must be given cause. A tenured teacher can be fired, but it is a long hard process requiring the 3 D’s…. documentation, documentation and documentation. I have released 3 tenured teachers, 2 with PHD’s. However, teacher contracts had and still have clauses that state you can be fired for a variety reasons re: being arrested, public drunkenness, inappropriate relationships ect.
