Jaylon Simmons! Did any Warrior fan's see this kid coming. Only a sophomore, but he's got size and speed. I didn't see any mention of him in any of the preseason previews. Was he a hoss in middle school ball? Kudos to coach Shively for giving him a chance to show his stuff. Not all coach's are willing to give a 15 year-old a shot, especially at RB. Congrats to Simmons and keep up the good work.

where have you been he started three games last year including the playoff loss.coach verran gave him a shot not shivley

warclone8 i will have to admit happy valley looked better than i thought they would be.That new coach might turn HV back into a program again.

coach verran and his staff led the warriors to the playoffs three years in a row won the conference his second year for the first time in 10 years something ogg never did after the first year he was there after that it was all down hill but the so called AD wanted a yes man as a coach now he has one.HV lost three good coaches what a terrible shame and disgrace HV has become where are the warriors when the school needs them all is left are science hill rejects, mean while coach hyder moves to EHS coach verran (former coach of ther year)and coach green are just left to wonder what happened

Coach Ogg was a great coach. Big difference between Shively and Verran. HV is headed in the right direction. We needed this change. I predict a great future for HV football. Out with the old and In with the new.

As far as your reference to Bernie Young as the "so called AD", HV is lucky to have a man of his caliber. He was probably the best baseball coach HV or Science Hill ever had and HV is lucky to have him back in any capacity. I guarantee he has more experience and knowledge than most AD's and Head Coach's in the entire East Tennessee and West NC area. He is well respected by a lot of people all over the country, not just our little neighborhood. I can also say without a doubt, Bernie did not hire a "yes man". You may not like him and you apparently don't know him, but coach Shively is anything but a "Yes Man". Happy Valley may have lost three good men, but sadly they were only mediocre coach's, and as far as where are the Warrior's when the school needs them, right here's an entire family of alumni, going all the way back from the 1950's to a recent 2010 graduate.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
