TSSAA PLAYOFF SYSTEM- ONE RULE ADDED COULD FIX IT

It looks like they have come up with a good system. One thing you can add is a head to head category in which if two teams have played earlier in the season the winner gets home field no matter what the seed. That would not hurt the teams that played the bigger schools up in classes. If you don't fix that, you will see teams in 3A-4A adding the 1A-2A schools instead of the higher schools. The higher classed schools would find it hard to get games. The system they way it is now hurts the teams that play up. A team could win their conference and two teams that they beat would be seeded higher. You are rewarding the teams that play teams in the smaller classes.

Not exactly.TSSAA has it in its own words, but it says(as i do in my words) that before tiebraking rules are taken into consideration, Head to Head is done first if the teams have played. So there is head to head.

What this does not solve is the situations where there are 3A teams that play in districts with good 4A teams. All things being equal, a 4A team should beat a 3A team. However, there are some districts where the 4A teams are weak and some districts where the 4A teams are strong. If you are a 3A team playing in a district where the 4A teams are strong, you are at a significant disadvantage.

If the TSSAA is going to split the teams into 3A and 4A for the playoff, then they should only put 3A teams in the same district and 4A teams in the same district.

Still though I do not see the head to head in there anywhere. You could have a team that is undefeated in their conference and have a record of 7- 3 having lost to teams in higher classes and a team that played most nonconference games against 1A schools with a record of 7-2. The 7-2 team will be seeded higher even if they lost head to head.

C'mon nature boy... Go have a look at Chuckey Doaks schedule and you might reconsider that statement.

Barb,

You are right. Chuckey Doak has three wins against 3 class A teams. Without those, they would NOT even be close to making the playoffs. They have only beaten one team with a winning record in their own class.

As I research this further, there is also Bledsoe County that has played SIX (6) class A opponents and only Four (4) opponents in their own classification which are their four district games. This is ridiculus!! It makes the whole TSSAA system a sham.

Here are the teams in contention for a playoff position in 3A and the number of teams on their schedule from Class A (minimum of 2):

Bledsoe County 6

Grundy County 5

Happy Valley 4

Milan 4

Stewart County 4

West Greene 4

Oakhaven 3

Sequatchie Cty 3

Sweetwater 3

Camden 2

Pigeon-Forge 2

Polk County 2

Westview 2

This is shocking to me and makes the whole thing a farce. Obviously some coaches believe the strategy to make the playoffs is to schedule small class A team and load up the victories.

Sequatchie having 3 dont buy much into that. They kept two OLD svc rivalries whitwell( not very good) Marion co.(advanced last two years in the first round. 2 years ago made it to semi state played alcoa very tough). Also Signal mnt. Nobody would call them a cupcake.
