You make the call - Halloween edition

4th and 8 from A's 35 yard line. QB A16 drops back to pass. He rolls right and is clearly out side of the tackles. He then throws a pass toward WR A88 at the A45 yard line, while the pass is in the air defender B27 grabs and holds the jersey of A88. The pass is about 8 feet over the head of A88 and clearly uncatchable.

Do we have anything? What is the down, distance, and team in possession for the next play? Remember, this is the Halloween edition :popcorneater:

Bluemom - lets see if we can get a couple of answers on this one :roflol:

You are correct. In high school there is no such thing as "outside the tackle box" or an "uncatchable pass." So, as you said, it is 15 yards from the previous spot and first down for A. 1st & 10 from the 50.

Right, but it still does have to be in that direction. So if B27 had grabbed A88's jersey while the throw was going over A82's head on the other side of the field, not DPI.

Could you have defensive holding? Once again, not that you would see it called far away from the ball.

You could, and that could actually affect the play--that receiver might have been able to spring his 'mate with a block on someone else (not likely, but possible. Only 10 yards, and no automatic first down in high school (but in the scenario presented, those 10 yards would reach the line to gain, so it's a first down anyway).
